Fort Myers, FL - Richard L. Cooper, 86, of Fort Myers, FL, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019, in Cape Coral Hospital, Cape Coral, FL. Richard was born February 28, 1932 to the late Wilbert L. and Mary Esther Sage Cooper.

He was a graduate of the Brook High School, Brook, IN class of 1950. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN, and received a Masters & Doctorate Degree from Michigan State University, and also worked at the University of Minnesota from 1962 - 1967 and the University of Illinois from 1967 - 2001. He served in the United States Army, from 1952 - 1954 during the Korean War serving in Germany for two years. Richard is a member of the Brook United Methodist Church. He worked for the University of Illinois, Minnesota and Ohio as a Soy Bean Breeder, for 40 years. He began working for the USDA at the University of Illinois from 1965-1976. He enjoyed coaching girls softball, fishing, hunting and traveling the world with his wife. Then finished his career in Wooster Ohio at Ohio State OARDC Lean Systems Industrial Extension Specialist Institute of Research for Technology Development, (IR4TD), Lean Systems Program.

He married the love of his life Norma S. Brunton, March 2, 1952 in Brook, IN and she survives. He is also survived by 4 daughters, Linda S. Kiocholis, (husband, Dave), Champaign, IL, June Schwartz, (husband, Duane), Urbana, IL, Regina Evans, (husband, Gary) Columbus, OH and Annette Boehm, (husband, Larry) Alexander, KY. Grandfather of 5 and Great Grandfather of 4, l brother, Roy A. Cooper, (wife, Avelynne), Goodland, IN, 2 sisters, Kay J. Torres, Dumont, NJ, and Mary Joyce Sharp, (husband, Jim), Reynolds, IN. He was preceded in death by l son, Daniel Lee Cooper, 3 brothers, Gerald Cooper, Floyd Cooper and Robert Cooper, and l sister, Joan Peacock.

Visitation will be on Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 10:00 - ll:30 am (CST), at the Gerts Funeral Home, Brook, IN. Funeral services will be heal at l2 noon (CST), at the Brook United Methodist Church, Brook, IN with Gary Cooper, officiating. Burial will follow at the Riverside Cemetery, Brook, IN. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made out to the Carriage Village Project, envelopes will be at the funeral home and church.
