Rollie "Pete" Wininger Obituary
Rollie "Pete" Wininger, 94

Rollie "Pete" Wininger, 94, of Lafayette, Indiana passed away on February 16, 2014 surrounded by family at his home on Underwood Street. Pete was born in Lafayette on July 1, 1919 to Rollie Franklin Wininger and Flossie Shipman Wininger. His parents did not give him a middle name, but his dad gave him the nickname "Pete" which he was often known by throughout his life. Other than a brief move to Martin County in his infancy, Pete lived in Lafayette his entire life. He married Betty Butler on August 8, 1940, and they were happily married for more than 73 years. Pete and Betty had ten children: Linda Cedarquist (husband Toby); the late LaDonna Wininger; Herbert Wininger; Judith Russell (husband James) of Gold Canyon, AZ; Glenn Wininger (wife Deborah); George Wininger (wife Kathleen) of Royal Palm Beach, FL; Ellen King (husband Stephen); Lois Taylor-Wolfe (husband Brock); Gail Winchester-McCauley; and Janet Morehouse (husband Eldon). Pete is survived by his wife, 9 children, 28 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great granddaughters, many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, a great-granddaughter, a great-grandson, 2 sisters and a brother. Pete was retired from ALCOA where he worked as a crane operator from the 1940's to the 1970's. He attended Schuyler Avenue Wesleyan Church throughout his life. Pete enjoyed small-game hunting, gardening, making music, raising dogs, spending time at his cottage on the Tippecanoe River, and he dearly loved all of his family from his eldest daughter to his youngest great-great granddaughter. In his life he knew 103 of his descendants, and he was a rock upon which his family relied. His legacy lives on in his 100 living descendants and the untold numbers of descendants yet to be born.

Visitation 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in Hippensteel Funeral Home. Services 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Hippensteel Chapel. Interment will be at Battle Ground Cemetery.
