Reverend Theodore E. Cutrell, 71

Reverend Theodore E. Cutrell, 71, of Greenwood, Indiana, succumbed to ALS and peacefully went to join his Heavenly Father on Saturday, November 12th, 2016.

Ted is survived by his wife, Harleen, of 48 years, sons Shaun (Donna) Cutrell and Brandon (Rob) Cutrell, mother Norma Cutrell, father-in-law Edward Bennett, brothers James Cutrell and Robert (Judy) Moffat, sisters Cheryl Rexrode and Lisa (Robert) Shank and twin grandsons Bennett and Nolan Cutrell. He is preceded in death by his father James Cutrell, mother Goldie Lutes, stepfather Walter Lutes, mother-in-law Carolyn Bennett and twin brother Frederick Cutrell. Ted was a loving father, husband, grandfather, friend and pastor to all.

Ted graduated from Columbus High School in 1964. He continued his education and earned degrees from Greenville College and Asbury Theological Seminary. After earning his Masters of Divinity, he pastored at Mount Vernon Free Methodist Church (Mount Vernon, Indiana; 2 years), Newton Free Methodist Church (Newton, Illinois; 2 years), First Free Methodist Church (Lafayette, Indiana; 9 years), East Columbus United Methodist Church (Columbus, Indiana; 7 years) and Christ United Methodist Church (Indianapolis, Indiana; 24 years). He loved movies, books, forensics, Lifetime TV, VW Beetles, the Colts, the Purdue Boilermakers, fish sandwiches and, perhaps more than anything, his grandchildren. Most importantly, he taught everyone he met how to truly love others.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, November 19th, 2016, at 2pm at Mount Auburn United Methodist Church, 3100 West Stones Crossing Road, Greenwood, Indiana. Ted's favorite color was red, so the family asks attendees to wear something red to help celebrate.

Memorial donations can be made in Ted's name to The ALS Association Indiana Chapter or to the Mount Auburn United Methodist Church Preschool.

Ted was a Sentinel Classmate at Asbury College. I informed the Alumni Office and they confirmed his passing. He wrote in my yearbook. He will be missed.

May he rest in peace with God. He was a gentleman that Bob and I admired. Although it has been over 20 years since we were in Indy and Pastor Ted was giving the service at Christ UMC. He is definetly someone that you will never forget.

I am so sorry to hear about his death. Ted and I was in youth group at East Columbus United Methodist back in the 60's. He thought the world of my beloved mother, and she loved him as a son. He will be greatly missed.

Life for good folks like Ted is all too brief. Ted was a good man. Someone I knew well as "Teddy" as a child in Columbus where we went to elementary school to high school together, played football at the Optimist Park and joined in worship and youth group activities at the church. While I saw him seldom and briefly as an adult, his smile and warm greeting was always a gift. I give thanks for his life of faith and abiding witness.

I am so sorry to hear of Pator Ted's passing and so sorry for your loss. He was a great friend to all of us and I will never forget his kindness throughout my life at Christ Church and especially visiting with "shut in" family members always delivering good cheer and fellowship. I loved hearing about his sky diving experience and will never see a Volkswagen car without thinking about him. He was a "good" spirit, that will live in all of us!

Harlene and family,

We are so sorry for your loss.

Greg and I attended The First Free Methodist Church in Lafayette, IN when we were newly weds and for a number of years after. All three of our children were born in Lafayette. Your sons were both very young when our children were born. We both really enjoyed Ted and you.

I have many fond memories of our time there, and many of them include Ted and you.

With much love in Christ,
Nancy Grimes
