Virgil Hicks Obituary
Virgil Hicks

Lafayette - Virgil L. Hicks, loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend went to be with our Heavenly Father and his beloved Marce on April 20, 2018 in Lafayette, Indiana. He was 87. Our hearts ache and we are sad but we are comforted in knowing he is with his beloved of 43 years, Marce. We'll miss his warm hugs and gentle ways. Virgil was born in Danville, Illinois on April 4, 1931. He spent his early years in Lafayette, Indiana where he started out working in a bowling alley setting up pins and moved up to washing dishes and learning the restaurant business. In 1966, he bought The Downtowner Restaurant and in 1978 purchased the Lahr Hotel. He was successful in everything he did but felt the need for a change, so he moved his family to Bozeman, Montana in 1980 to pursue his love of the great outdoors. He was a passionate hunter, a skilled fisherman and loved taking his family on many road trips across the country. The family spent many fun weekends exploring the "rugged west". Virgil was a realtor in the Gallatin Valley for a number of years and made numerous friends along the way. In his retirement years he and Marce bought the Carmel Corner in the Main Mall. In 2008 they packed up again and headed back to Indiana to be closer to family.

Virgil is survived by his children; Kelly, David, Michael, Terry (wife Thelma), Todd (wife Marsia), Traci (husband Brian). Also surviving are 2 sisters; Rusty and Kay and special niece Joy, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.

Virgil was preceded in death by his wife Martha, sons Adam and Troy, grandson Jeremy, parents Mildred and Bill West.

A Celebration of Virgil's life will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 11:00 am with visitation beginning at 10:00 am at the Beta Phi Sigma Fraternity 208 N. 900 E. in Lafayette.
