Lafayette - Virginia Sue Humphrey, 80, formerly of Kentland, IN, passed away January 8, 2019 at 10:12 pm in her home surrounded by her loving family after a short battle with cancer. She was born October 22, 1938 in Lawrence County, IN to the late Robert and Mary Roberts Grafton. She was a graduate of Oolitic High School class of l956. Sue enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, decorating and landscaping. but most of all she enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren sporting events. She was a homemaker but also worked as a administrative assistant in the A.S.C .office in Bedford, IN and Lafayette, IN, Sue's last job was in the Newton County Commissioners Office as their administrative assistant. She was a member of the Covenant Federated Church, Kentland, IN from 1961 to the present time, Junior Womens Club, Tri Kappa Sorority, Newton County Historical Society, Kentland Ladies Bridge Club, and Lafayette Neighbors Book Club. After 5l years in Kentland, IN they moved to Lafayette, IN to be closer to family.

On August l8, 1957 in Bedford, IN she married her high school sweetheart Ronald L. Humphrey and they were married for 6l years. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, LuAnn Humphrey, (wife, Azure Davey), Indianapolis, IN, and three sons, David L. Humphrey, at home, Stephen K. Humphrey, (wife, Norma), Carmel, IN and Michael A. Humphrey, (wife, Robin), Lafayette, IN. Grandmother of 8 and Great Grandmother of 6, one brother, Robert Grafton, (wife, Carole), Cincinnati, OH and 2 sisters, Margaret Ellison, Houston, TX and Merrilou Luse, (husband, Jon) Scottsburg, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister Martha Anne McDowell.

A celebration of life service will will be held on Friday, January 18,

2019 at 2:30 pm at the Central Presbyterian Church, large fellowship hall, at 7th and Columbia Street, Lafayette, IN with Elder Chip Goldsberry, and Richard E. Gerts, officiating. The family would like to give thanks to the medical staff at I.U. Medical Center, Indianapolis, IN, her hospice care givers her family and friends who helped with her care.

Memorials can be given in her name to either Newton County Community Foundation, Newton County Historical Society, Vision of Hope at Faith Church, 5652 Mercy Way, Lafayette, IN 47905 or C.S.I. Ministries at the church. Gerts Funeral Home, Brook, IN had the honor of serving the family with funeral arrangements.
