Walter Lee Chitty, 46

Walter Lee Chitty, 46, of Chalmers, died at 11:42 a.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at IndianaUniversity Hospital, Indianapolis. Born on March 26, 1967 in Lafayette, Indiana, he was the son of the late Ralph William and Ruth Ann Chitty.

After graduating from Frontier High School (Chalmers, IN) in 1985, he attended Vincennes University earning an agricultural economics degree and later attended Purdue University's Ag Short Course.

He married Becky Sue Copas on May 27, 1989 in Brookston, Indiana at the Federated Church of Brookston. They lovingly raised their two children on a small farm in Prairie Township near Chalmers, Indiana. Walt devoted his time to being a faithful steward of the land on Prairie View Farm. He thoroughly enjoyed supporting his children in both athletic and 4-H activities.

Walter was active in his community. He has assisted his church family as a member of the Board of Trustees, participated on the Brookston Public Library Board, served on the Frontier FFA Ag Advisory Board, and has been a Big Creek 4-H leader. Walter was also committed to philanthropic opportunities in his community.

At home he took pleasure in woodworking projects, maintaining the family farmstead, landscaping, working with various livestock, and spending time with friends and family.

Surviving, are his wife, Becky; a son, Walter Levi (girlfriend, Samantha Foutch, Monticello); a daughter, Jacqueline Lee Chitty (all of Chalmers); a sister, Harriet Armstrong (John), Columbus, IN; a brother, Alvin Chitty (Deidra), Westpoint, IN; mother-in-law, Judith Copas, Brookston; father-in-law, David Copas (Linda), Monticello; a sister-in-law Molly Shedlock (Randy), Camby, IN; and a brother-in-law J.C. Copas (Amy), Brookston.

Preceding him in death with his parents include a sister, Martha Lynne Chitty.

Memorials can be made in Walter's memory to the Walter Chitty Memorial Fund to be used for a later good in his name.

Friends may call from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at the Brookston Federated Church(202 S. Wood St. Brookston) and also from 12:30 until the time of funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7, 2013 also at the church. Rev. Dr. Lelan D. McReynolds, Pastor Daniel Berry and Pastor Bill Henderson to officiate. Burial will follow in Chalmers Community Cemetery, Chalmers, Indiana.
