William F. Fountain, 90

William F. "Bill" Fountain, age 90 of Lafayette, passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at IU Arnett Hospital surrounded by his family. Born on April 15, 1922 in Lafayette, he was the son of the late Gus A. and Icy F. Linedecker Fountain.

Bill served in the Army during WWII in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater where he was awarded two Bronze Star medals. Bill also served during the Korean Conflict. While serving in the military he earned the rank of Master Sergeant.

On August 9, 1946 he married Dorothy J. Prather in Lafayette and she survives. Bill was a lifelong resident of Lafayette. He and Dorothy wintered in Naples, Florida for 13 years. He was a lineman for PSI, now Duke Energy, for 40 years, retiring in 1985.

Bill was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #11. He was very involved in his grandchildren's and great-grandchildren's athletic events and loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed camping and NASCAR.

Surviving with his wife are their two children, a daughter Peggy A. Gruver and a son Steven W. Fountain (wife, Sandy) both of Lafayette, a sister Beverly L. Carmichael of Monticello, and two sister-in-laws Edna Fountain of Phoenix, AZ and Frieda Fountain of Battle Ground.

Also surviving are two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kiley Gruver, four brothers, Charles, Cleo, and August Fountain, and John Brose, and two sisters Ardys Garvin and Mary Ellen Mikels.

Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral service 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Celebrant Carla Ellis officiating. Burial with military honors to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to Riley Children's Hospital or the charity of donor's choice.
