John H. Boes III, 79

John H. Boes III "The Ole Salt Man", 79, of Lafayette and Delphi died at Indiana University Arnett Hospital 7:50 p.m. Monday November 12, 2012, where he had been a patient since last Wednesday. He had been in ill health the past eighteen months. John was born in Lafayette May 23, 1933, the son of the late John H. Boes, Jr. and Dorethea J. Taylor Boes and was a graduate of Buck Creek High School.

Mr. Boes married Esther L. Deephouse at St. Lawrence Church in Lafayette January 31, 1959, and she survives. John had resided in Lafayette most all of his life, and had spent twenty five years in Dephi, with he and Esther recently moving back to Lafayette.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Delphi, and St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette and the Knights of Columbus and Moose Lodge in Lafayette.

John was a firefighter with the Lafayette Fire Department from 1964 until he retired in 1986 with the rank of captain. He was also owner/operator of John Boes Water Care from 1981 until 2004.

Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Pamela L. (husband Ronnie W.) Thomas, of Lafayette and Theresa A. Meyer, of Lafayette; six sons, Ed (companion: Carrie New) Boes, Mark (wife: RaeLynn) Boes, Michael L. Boes, Steven Boes and Larry W. (wife: Katrina) Boes, all of Lafayette and Kevin J. (companion: Lisa) Boes, of Brookston; and two brothers, Jerry Boes, of Crawfordsville and George (companion: Kay) Boes, of Nashville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St. from the Rosary at 4:30 until 8 p.m. Friday, with the Firemen's Last Alarm Service at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Catholic Church 10:30 a.m. Saturday; Fr. Dan Gartland officiating, with interment following at St. Boniface Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the .
