Sarah Ann Wells VanSickle

Delphi - Sarah Ann Wells VanSickle, 93, of Delphi, passed away Saturday-May 1, 2021 at 10:10pm at IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis after a brief illness. She was born November 5, 1927 in Delphi, to the late Richard & Ethel Richardt Wells. Her marriage was to Wayne VanSickle in Pittsburg on January 16, 1948, and he preceded her in death on January 8, 1998. Sarah was a 1945 graduate of Delphi High School. She was a clerk for the former Kenworthy Grocery Store in Delphi for over 40 years, retiring in 1985, and was a homemaker. She was a member of the former Pittsburg Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday school, and currently the Living Faith Church of the Brethren near Flora. She was a member of the Carroll County Country Club, played in the women's golf league, and was club champion for 3 years. She and her husband bowled in Delphi leagues, and enjoyed square dancing, and in her younger years, she and her sister played travel softball. She was a member of the Delphi American Legion Auxiliary and the Wabash & Erie Canal Assoc. She loved sports and was a longtime supporter of Delphi Athletics, always rooting on her beloved Oracles. An avid Chicago Cubs fan, she and her sister attended the 1945 World Series in Chicago to watch the Cub's play. She was Delphi's First Lady for 16 years, while her husband Wayne was Mayor of Delphi. She enjoyed quilting and loved to play BINGO. Her greatest love was for her family. She dearly loved them all, and enjoyed going to her grandchildren's sporting and school functions. Surviving: daughters-Judy & Steve Wilson, and Diane & Monty Edging both of Delphi; sons-Thomas "Tom" & Pam VanSickle, and Richard "Dick" & Stephanie VanSickle both of Delphi. 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren survive. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters Nellie Snow & Meredith McLaughlin; a brother Elton Wells. Services: Visitation will be Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm at Abbott Funeral Home, Inc., Delphi. Her funeral service will be Thursday there at 11am, Pastor Bruce Hankins officiating. Burial will be at Masonic Cemetery, Delphi. Memorial contributions may be made to the Delphi Youth Baseball program, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
