JACKSONVILLE - Grier L. Garrick II, 92, of Jacksonville, died Monday, May 14, 2018, at Onslow Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, at Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Smith and Rev. Dennis Goodwin officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow at Onslow Memorial Park.
Mr. Garrick served in the US Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He established Carolina Office Supply in 1954, in Jacksonville and continued to grow and expand throughout eastern North Carolina over the next fifty years.
Mr. Garrick was an active servant of the United Methodist Church, having held most offices in the local church, and was Lay Leader for the North Carolina Conference, active in the jurisdiction, was a delegate to General Conference in Honolulu, Portland, San Francisco, and Atlanta, as well as serving on district and conference committees.
Mr. Garrick was active in the community as well. He was a president/chairman of the Chamber of Commerce, a president of the Lions Club, a member of the Jaycees, and a founding member of the Rejays.
Grier Garrick was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.The gift of his life will be cherished by all those who loved him.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Martha Bishop Garrick of the home; three daughters, Susan Garrick Motes and her husband, Harry, of Tuscaloosa, AL; Kathy Garrick Gross of Midway Park; Bettie Garrick Francis and her husband, Gilbert, of Pinebluff; one son, Grier Garrick III and his wife, Sandy, of Rockport, TX; and four grandchildren, Heather Wilshire, Louise Gross, Rachel Garrick and Grace Francis.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to North Carolina Wesleyan College, 3400 N. Wesleyan Blvd. Rocky Mount NC 27804, or to Trinity United Methodist Church, 301 Marine Blvd., Jacksonville NC 28540.
