Joe Olson, 92, of Baxter, died Monday, January 4, 2021, at his home following a brief illness.
Born in Summerville on September 24, 1928, he was the son of the late Warren and Sarah Smith Olson.
Mr. Olson attended Summerville High School and proudly serviced his country in the U.S. Army.
On October 31, 1953, in Brookville, he married the former Janet Snyder. She preceded him in death.
He worked for both Penn Central and Conrail Rail road companies until his retirement. After his retirement he worked for Clover Township for 28 years until the age of 88.
He attended both the Methodist and Presbyterian Church and was a member of the former Summerville VFW.
His greatest joy in life came from spending time with his family. He was especially proud of the five generations of his family.
His survivors include a son, Joe Olson; four daughters, Sandy (Ted) Hetrick, Barbara (Mike) Clark, Tina (Todd) Dickey and Lisa (Mark) Battaglia; a brother, Dick (Peggy) Olson; two sisters, Darla (Howard) Fyock and Gloria (Klaus) Taylor-Lichte; thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, William (Bill), Don and Loraine Olson; three sisters, Phyllis Harrison, Sally Olson and Kathryn McBride; and a grandson, Zack Olson.
Family will receive friends Thursday, January 7, 2021, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM and Friday, January 8, 2021, from 10-11 am, at Furlong Funeral Home, 50 Broad St., Summerville. Funeral services will be held Friday, January 8, 2021, at 11 am with Pastor John Thomas, officiating. COVID -19 guidelines will be observed.
Interment will follow at Pisgah Cemetery, Corsica, Jefferson County.
