Valerie May Read, 97, of Brookville, passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at Jefferson Manor Health Center.

She was born in Cuyahoga County, Ohio on August 5, 1923, a daughter of the late Harry R. McKinsey and Doris Glenn (Wiltsie) McKinsey.

On October 22, 1941, she became the wife of Harvey Edward Read. He preceded her in death on December 08, 2014.

Mrs. Read worked as a cafeteria worker in the Brookville School District from 1970 through 1982.

She loved the vibrant colors of flowers. She enjoyed gardening and growing her own flowers, as well as knitting and crocheting.

Mrs. Read was the mother of ten children, she loved them all and enjoyed being with her family.

She is survived by eight of her children, Keith Read and wife Diane of Oletha, Colorado, Harvey E. Read of Dayton, Richard Luther Read and wife Shirley, Billy Zane Read, Paul Read and wife Peggy of Littlestown, PA, Pamela May Read of Seattle, WA, James Read of Dayton, PA and Mark Read; thirteen grandchildren; one brother, Norman McKinsey of Houston, TX and sister, Sue McKinsey of Batavia, NY.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband, two infant daughters, Wanda and Bonnie Lou Read; her twin brother, Thomas McKinsey, brother, Lance McKinsey; three sisters, Maxine Alexander, Naomi and Dot.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., Punxsutawney.

A private graveside service will be held at Pisgah Church Cemetery in Corsica.
