Virgil Coleman Obituary

Virgil Coleman
Born: July 4, 1932
Died: February 26, 2023
Virgil Coleman, of Frankfort, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on February 26, 2023. One of five children of the late Hubert and Violet Coleman, Virgil was born on July 4, 1932, and grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He is preceded in death by his cherished wife of 57 years, Lola Coleman; his mother and father, Hubert and Violet Coleman; his brother, Richard Coleman; his brother Arthur Coleman; his brother Robert Coleman; his son-in-law, Bruce Ackerman; and his daughter-in-law, Jody Coleman. Virgil is survived by many relatives and dear friends. His surviving family includes his three sons, Andy Coleman, Don Coleman, and Jim Coleman; his daughter from a previous marriage Cathy Coleman-Ackerman; daughters in law, Amie Coleman and Karen Coleman; his grandchildren, Dominique Hute (née Coleman) and Arley Coleman; granddaughter in law, Melanie Hute; his sister, Virginia Chapman; his mother-in-law Bettie Lane, and many nieces and nephews. Virgil lived a full and active life. After a tour in the Navy, on the USNS General H.W. Butner, Virgil served with the Indiana State Police. Thereafter, he moved to Frankfort, Illinois where he purchased the Standard Oil Service Station once located at Route 30 & 45. It was during this time that he met his beloved wife, Lola. After selling the Service Station, Virgil drove a truck for Crowley-Sheppard Asphalt, and other companies. Additionally, he was proud to serve with the Frankfort Police Department and found great satisfaction and lifelong friendship during the time that he worked for the Village of Frankfort. Virgil never met a stranger and struck up conversations with everyone he met. He never missed his bowling night on Wednesdays with his Tick Tock Gift Shop teammates. He greatly enjoyed working in and around his home and tending to his and Lola's beautiful yard and vegetable garden and driving his trusty 1965 Wheelhorse. A master craftsman, with a penchant for detail, Virgil could (and did) make pretty much anything made of wood in his workshop. His kids and grandkids were often the beneficiaries of his beautiful creations. He was a proud member of the Frankfort Lions Club, supporting them in meaningful ways. He always pitched in for their efforts during the annual Fall Festival and found great pleasure in supporting Frankfort throughout his life. Virgil's contributions to the Frankfort community and the friendships he made were important to him, though his greatest joy was the love of his life, Lola, his children, and grandchildren. Family trips to the lake in Southern Illinois were treasured by them all. A small family gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. Interment will be private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood IL. In lieu of flowers donations to the Frankfort Lion's Club would be greatly appreciated. When I think of Virgil I remember how he decorated the Village Trees for Christmas with such precision and symmetry
The result was so beautiful

And his signature dance steps at Parties.

He and Lola were the Best
