Susan Atherton 1953—2020
Susan S. Atherton age 67, of Lanark, Illinois, passed away Sunday, December 20, 2020 at FHN Memorial Hospital. A private family graveside service will be held.
Susan was born April 5, 1953 in Oakland, California, the daughter of Douglas and Priscilla (Gettle) Spencer. She graduated from Aragon High School in San Mateo, California, Class of 1971. She then attended St. Petersburg College in St. Pete, Florida. On September 14th, 1985, Susan married and celebrated 35 years of marriage to Kurtis Atherton. They raised two children, Jessica and Spencer.
Susan worked at Highland College from 1991-2012. She served as the executive director of the Highland College Foundation. Susan enjoyed traveling, gardening, trying new recipes, and visiting new restaurants. She was a fan of the food network.
Susan will be dearly missed by her husband Kurtis of Lanark; daughter Jessica (Ben) Deppe of Galena; and one grandson Hawken. She is preceded in death by her parents Douglas and Priscilla, son Spencer in 2012, and her brother William.
