Towne, Judith A. (Nee Wessing) Judy Towne of Greendale passed away on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the age of 69. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was the loving wife of 47 years to Chuck and the beloved mother of Eric, Sara, Heidi, and Brian. She was a doting grandmother to Rebecca and Drew. Judy was a graduate of Lomira High School, the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and Northwestern University. She was very active in her community and was known as a thoughtful, caring person who dedicated her life to helping others. She was currently in her 21st year as a speech pathologist in the Greendale School District, where she helped students of all ages, from early childhood intervention through high school. She was Teacher of the Year in 2008. She was also a loyal and tireless volunteer to many organizations, including being the president of the PTO, the president of Greendale Playschool, and was active in the Newcomers Club and the Greendale Swim Club for many years. In her spare time, she loved to cook and try new recipes, and she was an avid reader. She also enjoyed the theater. In addition to her husband, children, and grandchildren, she will be lovingly remembered and missed by her mother, seven brothers and sisters, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends. According to her wishes, she will be cremated. A visitation with family will be held on Friday, February 22, from 3-7 PM at Max A. Sass and Sons, Greenridge Chapel, in Greenfield (4747 S. 60th Street); please join family and friends for shared remembrances at 6 PM. If desired, gifts in her memory may be made to Greendale Kid Boosters (checks can be sent to Greendale Education Foundation with "For Greendale Kid Boosters" in the memo line to 6801 Southway, Greendale, WI 53129).

I have fond memories of working with Judy at Highland View, Canterbury and Greendale Middle School. I especially remember the delicious cookies she baked and shared when she participated in the annual Greendale Elementary cookie exchange I organized each year. She was such a wonderful and creative baker, and I will cherish the cookie recipes I have collected from her over the years. She will be dearly missed in Greendale. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

I enjoyed teaching with Judy at Highland View! She graciously presented an inspiring lesson every year during my Sound Unit. It was also my good fortune to have Science Award Winner son Eric in my 8th grade class at Intermediate. i got to know bright Heidi at College Park. Amazing family!

Countless times, Judy's voice has come to memory as Emily in Our Town. "Oh Earth, you are too beautiful for anyone to recognize!" But then, "Gradually, we let go hold of this earth...." Goodbye, Emily, and goodbye, Judy. You will long be part of my memories of Lomira High.

Judy was my son's speech teacher when he was at Highland View and has been my fourth grade daughter's speech teacher since K-5. Every so often, Peyton would ask Mrs. Towne if she was ready to 'graduate' out of taking speech and Judy would tell her how close she was getting - she was so looking forward to her little celebration, the one Judy would have for each of her students when they graduated! As parents, we are so thankful for her caring, dedication and patience. Our kids' lives would not be the same without her impact as a teacher. She was not only a great teacher, but a wonderful person - I never saw her without a smile on her face and a kind word for all. Judy, I know Peyton will keep working hard on her r's, l's and s's and when that day comes when she is ready to graduate, we know you will be smiling down on her and the little celebration we will have! We will miss you dearly!!!
