Margaret Komives Obituary

Komives, Margaret Deck Born July 21, 1924, died April 8, 2010, at the age of 85+ of leukemia. Margaret grew up in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated with a BS in Home Economics from Fontbonne College. She received her MS in Education from St. Louis University. She taught for ten years in the St. Louis Public Schools. She married John Komives in June, 1958, and proceeded to raise four daughters. She was immensely proud of the academic and career successes of each daughter, Eugenie (Genie), Elizabeth (Betsy), Monica, and Claire. In Mequon, WI, where she has resided for the past 42 years, she co-founded the Ozaukee Girls Club to foster leadership skills for girls. When Claire was entering high school, Margaret returned to teaching at MATC, where she taught for the next 24 years. Her students knew her as "Maggie". She authored five books on techniques for clothing construction and tailoring, and was a frequent contributor to Threads Magazine. Following her retirement, she traveled with her husband via Elderhostel mostly in Europe and then on several cruises in Alaska, the Baltic Sea, and the Bahamas. She also traveled to visit her daughters who live in North Carolina, California, Texas and Montana. She celebrated her 50th Wedding Anniversary in Mequon with the entire family gathered, including four grandchildren, Natalie, Frances, Fox IV and Abigail, and sons-in-law Rex Bentley and Fox Benton III. Memorials to your favorite charity are encouraged. We wish to thank especially the Visiting Nurse Association and their Hospice program, as well as the physicians Dr. John Yang and Dr. Corey Shamah and the staff at the nearby medical facilities. There will be a Memorial Mass Thursday, April 15, at 11:00 AM, at LUMEN CHRISTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2700 W. Mequon Rd., corner of N. Range Line Rd., Mequon. Rosary preceding the Memorial Mass will be at 10:30 AM.

her sewing and tailoring
talents and the books that she
wrote.

Dear Genie and Betsy - I don't know if you remember me but I went to High School with you (Genie, I had French class with you and Betsy, you were in my grade). Please accept my sympathy in the passing of your Mother. The older we get, the more we realize all the things our mothers taught us and how hard they worked to make us into the women we are. The article about your Mom showed how her life was a shining example of a woman who loved her family and took pride in taking care of them without losing her sense of self. Her accomplishments were many and varied. I hope all your memories of her bring many smiles as you navigate the new reality of life without her physical presence.

Dear Betsy and family, - Your mom was a talented and wonderful teacher. I once had the pleasure of taking a class with her where I began to understand the mysteries of a "sloper." My condolences to you and your family. Sally Heinritz Miller
