Moeller, Arthur C. Of Wauwatosa, formerly of Glendale, passed away on January 31, 2010, at the age of 90 after a brief illness. Arthur was born on December 14, 1919, to Norman and Philomena (nee Kunzen) Moeller, in Cleveland, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his brother Fr. Norman Moeller, S.J., his sister Elizabeth "Betty" Freyer (Harry Freyer), and his brother Robert Moeller. He is survived by his sister-in-law Catherine "Lucille" (nee Else) Moeller, and 19 nieces and nephews, as well as many other relatives and close friends. He earned degrees in mathematics and electrical engineering from Western Reserve University, Michigan State University and Marquette University, and had a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin. After teaching for a year at Denison University in Ohio, Arthur joined the faculty of Marquette University in 1944. Over the years he held various faculty and administrative positions, including Dean of the College of Engineering and, for seven years, Vice President for Academic Affairs, the first lay person ever to hold that position at a Jesuit university. After his official retirement in 1996, he served more than 12 years as Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, which involved extensive interaction with and advising of undergraduate students, demonstrating his passion for undergraduate education. At the time of his death he held the title of Professor Emeritus of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Arthur was a Life Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and a Fellow of the International Engineering Consortium, where he was a member of the Board of Directors for forty years. He received many honors and awards for his teaching and service, including the Marquette University Faculty Award for Teaching Excellence and membership in Pi Mu Epsilon, Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi, and Alpha Sigma Nu. Arthur was especially active in Triangle Fraternity and received its Triangle Service Key award in 2003. Visitation Thursday, February 4, at the funeral home from 5:00 PM-7:00 PM. A second visitation will be held on Friday, at San Camillo Chapel (10200 W. Blue Mound Rd., Wauwatosa), from 9:00AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM. Entombment, Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Marquette University for the Arthur C. Moeller Scholarship Endowment for Academic Distinction.
