Betsy Huntress Obituary

Huntress, Betsy Ann (Nee Whiteside) Betsy Ann (Whiteside) Huntress, on the wings of angels, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on June 13, 2017 in Stamford, CT. Betsy was born in Hinsdale, IL on July 25, 1928 to Ruth Ann (Cooper) Whiteside and George Watson Whiteside, Sr. She graduated in 1948 from Bradford Junior College, Haverhill, MA and in 1950 from Stanford University, Palo Alto, CA. Betsy married the love of her life, Carroll B. Huntress, Jr. in Janesville, WI on June 27, 1953. In 1955, Betsy and Carroll moved to Whitefish Bay, WI where they raised their 4 children for the next 25 years. In 1979, the empty nesters moved to Naples, FL. Carroll retired from real estate and Betsy used her considerable drive, ambition and skills to forge a successful 25 year residential real estate career. Shortly after moving to Connecticut to be closer to family, Carroll passed in 2007. Betsy lost her soulmate. Betsy's spiritual life included a dedication to her Episcopal upbringing, attending Christ Church in Whitefish Bay, WI and Trinity By-The-Cove in Naples, FL. She was a lifelong and passionate supporter of YMCA Camp Manitowish in Boulder Jct., WI. A Boys camp since 1919, she attended the first female campership in 1941. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Deborah Whiteside Klotsche. She is survived by her brother George Watson Whiteside, Jr. (Gail), her 4 children, Robin Huntress Tempas of Broomfield, CO, Kathleen Huntress Coolidge (Richard) of Chandler, AZ, Carroll B. Huntress, III (Kathleen) of Paradise Valley, AZ and Ann Huntress Lamont (Ned) of Greenwich, CT. Betsy was the matriarch of 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, all of whom she encouraged and adored. When asked recently to reflect on her life, Betsy summed it up by saying, "I've had such a good life. Just beautiful!" A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas On-The-Desert, Paradise Valley, AZ at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Camp Manito-Wish, in Boulder Junction, Wisconsin.

My father Watson Whiteside has recently passed away and I find myself thinking of our family roots more often. I love and have always adored my Aunt Betsy. She was always so damn classy and held high regards for those she loved. I am sorry to have missed your memorial and I hope that you and Dad are making great company with the rest of the clan. I send my love to you all.

Betsy and I worked together for a year as volunteers for the League Club, and in that time we became very close friends. Later when she had left Naples but came back to visit, my husband Sam and I always made plans to get together for dinner. I considered her a very dear friend and have missed her so much, Trig Cooley

To the Huntress Family: My heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and friends during this difficult time. I hope that the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:14 can bring comfort. Knowing that there's a hope for the ones we have lost in death can be so reassuring.

Dear Betsy and Carroll,

You do not remember me nor should you or your descendants but your parents and mine knew each other from Hinsdale, Il and reconnected in Janesville, Wi circa 1953-4.I remember riding a bicycle at your house in Janesville and since there was no chain guard on the bike my (new) pants got chewed up to my mothers dismay.

Tho I do not consider myself a "Janesvillite" I did graduate from JHS ('59) and thus hold distinction with Paul Ryan as well as keeping in touch with former classmates.

All the best to your family,
