Schaefer, James San Diego/Orfordville James C. Schaefer, 79, died on Wednesday, September 13, 2017, after a 16-month battle with cancer, at the home of his twin sister, Joanne DeLorme in Orfordville, WI. James was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on June 8, 1938, eight minutes before his twin sister, Joanne, to Argethor and Marcella (Horn) Schaefer. He graduated salutatorian from Stockbridge High School in 1956. He served in the U. S. Army attaining the rank of corporal. James then attended the University of Wisconsin Whitewater and graduated cum laude in 1961. James worked as a computer systems analyst for 39 years at Wisconsin Electric Power Co., Milwaukee for 16 years, Manpower Inc., for 2 years, DASD Corp for 1 year and the County of San Diego for 20 years. At Wisconsin Electric he was the analyst responsible for the computer program that printed over 600,000 customer bills each month. At San Diego County, he was the lead analyst for a new jail computer system, a system that processed a million computer transactions each month. He relocated to San Diego in 1980 after accepting the county job. James was athletic and participated in tennis, baseball, softball, golf and volleyball, playing tennis into his late 70's. He liked to see stars perform in person. He saw Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, James Brown, Johnny Carson, Joan Rivers and others. James read newspapers and non-fiction books regularly. He authored a book in 2002 titled, "The Pretzel Man" a true story of phobias and back problems. He described the steps he took to overcome his illness. He was successful, but it took many years. He never married and had no children. He was diagnosed with stage 4-esophageal cancer in May 2016. He was treated in Janesville, WI and San Diego, CA. James is survived by his twin sister, Joanne DeLorme, the owner/operator of the Merle Norman Studio in Janesville, nephews: Gary (Kris), of Madison; David (Lora), of Belvidere, IL; Kevin (Jenny) DeLorme, of Belleville. James was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Joel N. DeLorme and nephew, Joel "Jody" DeLorme II. At James request there will be no funeral service. Newcomer Silverthorn Chapel on the Hill, 3008 South Coon Island Road, Orfordville, WI 53576 is assisting the family.
