Anderson, Robert Garfield, M.D. 84, of Waukesha, WI; passed away on January 17, 2011. He was born on July 16, 1926 in Pyongyang, Korea to A. Garfield Anderson, M.D., and Hattie Florence Anderson (Peterson) while they were serving as Methodist medical missionaries in Korea. Dr. Anderson served in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and 1946. He then received his B.S. from Northern Illinois University and went on to receive his M.D. from Northwestern University Medical School in 1952. He performed his Internship at Wesley (Northwestern) Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL; and Residency at Hines Veterans Hospital in Maywood, IL. During his career he was distinguished by election as a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons in 1968, and served as Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, IL. He also practiced in the Chicago area (Glenview, IL) specializing in ophthalmology for 20 years. He later practiced in Racine, WI, specializing in ophthalmology, where he served the community for 24 years. Dr. Anderson is preceded in death by his brother, John A. Anderson, D.D.S; and sisters, Vera and Lisa. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Ruth Helen (Hjorth); sons, Paul (Lindy), Mark (Laura), and John (Bev); daughters, Katherine and Christine (Hernan); 13 grandchildren, 5 great - grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service honoring Dr. Anderson's life will be held at 2:00 PM, on Sunday, January 30, at Elmbrook Church, 777 S. Barker Rd., Brookfield, WI 53045.
