Belton, Thomas W. An exceptionally good man was taken from us on October 15, 2013. Born on September 7, 1928 in St. Joseph, MI to Darrell and Grace (Cauffman) Belton. Tom served in the Army in Japan after high school and then attended Michigan State University. He received a B.S. degree with a major in Business and Public Service. He chose a career he loved as Park and Recreation Director serving in MI, MN, IL and WI. Tom was an outstanding tennis player in college winning Big Ten Conference titles. He also played on the All Army Tennis Team. Tom continued winning tournaments in many states and many age divisions. Tom was very athletic, enjoying swimming, walking, and biking with friends. He loved nature. Tom was instrumental as Park and Recreation Director in Brookfield in improving and developing many marvelous parks. He was also instrumental in purchasing the land for Foxbrook Park. Tom loved his family, his God and tried to live accordingly. He was a member and usher at St. Luke Catholic Church, he served for many years as President of St. Vincent de Paul and worked in their soup kitchen, delivered groceries to the food pantry and to the end, loved greeting and visiting with everyone. Tom is survived by his dear wife, Janet (Beck/ Peters); son James (Michelle); daughter Debra (Duff) Stump; grandchildren Jonathan, Corey and Abigail and step-son Steven Peters. Tom is further survived by his sisters Kay (the late Richard) Hadley and Rosemary (the late Jimmie) Jimearson, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Visitation Saturday, October 19 at ST. LUKE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 18000 W. Greenfield Ave., Brookfield, from 9:30-10:45 AM. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a would be appreciated.
