William Nevins Obituary

William P. 'Bill' Nevins

Bill Nevins, 70, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly near his home in Atenas Costa Rica just three months after very successfully donating a kidney to a friend in San Francisco amid the challenges of Covid-19.

He is survived by his wife Margaret and her children Matt (Kasia) and Jennifer (Jeff) and their families as well as his former wife Elaine and their children Ryan, Hana, and Erin. He is further survived by his siblings Mike (Elisabeth), Dick (Pat), Barb, Lisa, Terry (Stuart), Patty, Mark, and Ann (Will), a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and most of all friends worldwide.

After a shortened but life well lived of dreaming, adventure, and entrepreneurial ventures, which included The Blue Deli in Milwaukee and Pacific Rim in Tacoma, he was welcomed home by his parents Bob and Hanna, his brothers Robert Michael and Bobby, and countless relatives and friends.

Due to worldwide Covid-19 restrictions private ceremonies will be held at later dates in his beloved Costa Rica and in Monterey, CA.

Condolences may be sent through legacy.com.

Memorials in Bill's name may be sent to NEPAL SEEDS 800 Kansas Street San Francisco, CA 94107 or their website http://www.nepalseeds.org on whose board of directors he served for many years. Following his courageous and very successful live organ donation surgery he would also be honored if you register at your local DMV to become an organ donor or directly with the National Donate Life Registry.

Bill was a friend to many and will be missed by many more.

Bill owned the Pacific Rim restaurant at 10th and "A" Street in Tacoma. He was such a jolly fellow. He'd just slide into the booth where we were dining and nibble off my plate, then do a tap dance routine and disappear off into the kitchen. He turned me on to Manka's Inverness Lodge where we stayed on our Grateful Dead trips. I miss his sav·oir faire.

Bill was a running partner down at the downtown YMCA. I was reminded by Ron and Jean Bone that we all did the Seattle half marathon together. Was sadden to hear of his passing. Funny story for a wedding present he invited Lynda and I for a farewell dinner at the Pacific Rim and he had to remind to make sure I cleaned my finger nails! Used to do a little wrenching. Anyway rest in peace dear old friend!

Though our acquaintance was brief, Bill was most gracious during his time at Pacific Rim. What fun we had during social gatherings with business colleagues. Bill was always there to greet us and show his hospitality. It's with sadness to hear of his passing, but I'm certain he's making his way up there, spreading his good naturedness with all. RIP, Bill.

Oh my, what a shock to read this morning's Monterey Herald. What a beautiful tribute to an amazing man. Our heartfelt love and prayers to all of his family. We came to know and love Bill through his work at L&O Artichokes in Salinas. He was so full of life and adventure, it was an honor to know and love him.

Bill reconnected with many Marquette High graduates at our 50th reunion. He was a delight! He gamely rented a three speed clodhopper bike, gamely rode 35 miles with a group of classmates (most on high end road bikes) and cheerily greeted every passing cyclist we passed along the way. I suspect he couldn’t sit down for a week thereafter. He was full of adventure, an easy conversationalist and genuinely interested in those around him. The world is diminished with his passing. R.IP Bill. My condolences to all family

Uncle Bill you were larger than life and one of the best at living it. You dreamed big and weren’t afraid to fail. I cherish our many email exchanges that were always thoughtful, deep, and full of love and insight. You inspired me to always push myself, seek to understand what I didn’t, and be a good person overall. I will miss you forever. Love Jessica

Our family circle is once again broken but with time the memories and good times spent with our free spirit brother will make that circle stronger than ever. Until then a huge void fills his spot! Love to the moon and beyond...lisa
