Peter "Pete" Bernhardt Notice
Bernhardt, Peter "Pete" Passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2014 with his family at his side at The Kathy Hospice in the Town of Polk after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Pete was preceded in death by his beloved wife Therese, his parents John Sr. and Katherine and his brothers John Jr. "Johnny" and Joseph. Loving father of Gregg (Patricia), of Slinger, Mark, of Milwaukee, Beth (Will), of Sussex, and Karen (Greg), of Sussex. Proud grandfather of Trista, Justin, Ryan, Tony, Kayleigh, and Zach, and great-grandchildren Emalea and Audrey. Dear brother of Karoline. Peter served his country as a seaman in the U.S. Navy and traveled the world on goodwill missions following World War II. He once proudly piloted a light cruiser through the Panama Canal and enjoyed peacetime opportunities the Navy gave him. After his discharge from the Navy, he later served in the Naval Reserves until 1954. Following his military service, Pete went on to become a skilled industrial worker receiving an apprenticeship at the Harnischfeger Corporation in Milwaukee and advanced from there. Pete was a devout member of St. James Catholic Church in Menomonee Falls for 48 years. He enjoyed camping, fishing woodworking, and being around the family's dogs Fritz, Drifter, Reggie, and BoBo. He never lost his faith and aided our family with his end of life issues. Visitation for Pete will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014, at St. James Catholic Church (W220 N6588 Town Line Rd., Menomonee Falls) from 9 AM until time of Memorial Mass at 11 AM. Entombment at Resurrection Cemetery (9401 W. Donges Bay Rd., Mequon) on Monday, June 16, at 10 AM (please meet us at the cemetery). In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to the St. James Building and Grounds Fund or The Kathy Hospice. Special thanks to the staff of The Kathy Hospice for all the care and concern shown to Pete.
