James Plunkett Obituary

Plunkett, James Gardner Age 81, much loved husband and father, died peacefully at home on February 20, 2014. He is remembered with love by his wife, Gwendolyn G. Plunkett, and his four children, Karen W. Plunkett (Thomas Muenster) of Milwaukee, Robert G. Plunkett (Karen N. Plunkett) of Darien, Connecticut, Katherine K. Plunkett of Overland Park, Kansas, and Laura A. Plunkett (Thomas Cali) of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was also survived by his aunt, Evelyn Brynelsen, and his ten grandchildren: William, Anna, Bradley, Natalie, Claire, Martin, Andrew, Reade, Adriana, and Lorenzo. Jim was preceded in death by his parents Henry Phillip Plunkett and Jeanette Gardner Plunkett. Jim was graduated from Milwaukee University School and Cornell University. He was president of Plunkett Keymar Reginato and Plunkett Raysich Architects in Milwaukee. Jim was an active leader in the community and was also a longstanding member of the Milwaukee Rotary Club. He was an avid philanthropist to many organizations including the Medical College of Wisconsin. Jim supported the performing arts such as the Skylight, The Rep, the Florentine Opera, the Chamber Theatre, the Milwaukee Symphony, and the Marcus Center and he served as a trustee on their respective boards. Additionally, Jim chaired the Board of Appeals in River Hills. Jim loved traveling, sailing, playing bridge, listening to organ concerts, and spending time with his grandchildren, all of whom called him Papou. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at 4:00 PM on May 31, at The First Unitarian Church located at 1342 N. Astor Street in Milwaukee. Donations, in his name, to local performing arts organizations are suggested.
