On January 4, 2021, at the age of 83, John "Ed" Edward Baker Sr. passed away in his birthplace of LaGrange, Indiana. 

Ed enlisted in the Marine Corps as a young man. While stationed in Hawaii, he met and later married Joy Gundram. In 1959, after being honorably discharged, Ed and Joy moved to Sitka celebrating the Alaskan statehood and knew they wanted to stay. In 1963 the couple moved to I Street in Douglas, Alaska and started their family. 

Ed and Joy joined the Resurrection Lutheran Church and were active in the community. Ed volunteered for the Douglas Fire Department eventually becoming the Chief during the 70's. He was also a member of the Elks Club and an avid bowler. Ed worked as a meatcutter for Foodland in Juneau until he left Alaska for the mid-west in 1989. 

Ed is survived by three children, Shana Anne Laursen of Bend, Oregon; Trina Sue Luce of Cincinnati, Ohio; John Edward Baker Jr. of Juneau; and seven grandchildren. Ed loved Alaska and always vowed to return, his children will honor his wish and bring him back at a later date.
