Judith (Finley) Nuhfer Obituary
Judith Finley Nuhfer, 74, of Sheffield, died Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2018, surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born Sept. 29, 1943 to the late Edward and Elaine Lytle Finley.
On Aug. 19, 1972, she married Gerald Nuhfer, who survives.
Judy graduated from WAHS Class of 1961 and Clarion University. She taught fourth grade at South Street Elementary School, for the Warren Head Start Program and was a learning support teacher at Warren High School before retiring in 2004.
Judy was a member of St. Anthony's Church where she was active in the CCD Program as elementary coordinator, former Eucharistic Minister and helped on funeral luncheons.
She was also a member of the Sheffield Progressive Women's Club and served on the scholarship recipient committee.
Judy followed all kinds of sports and especially liked watching football and college basketball. She was quite the athlete herself, bowling in the Sheffield Coffee League and she once bowled a perfect 300 in a "no tap" game. Affectionately called "Nana" or "Bubba," she was proud of her children and grandchildren's accomplishments and liked to watch their sporting events.
It was common to see Judy reading on the front porch of her home or knitting one of her traditional baby blankets for the grandchildren.
Judy is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jerry, and children Michele (Jason) Barner of Kane, Jennifer (Dennis) Wang of Fayetteville, New York, Rebecca (Chris) Riggle of Downingtown and Daniel (Rachelle) Nuhfer of Rochester, New York; and seven grandchildren, Alaina Barner, Curtis Barner, Blake Riggle, Cole Riggle, Sammy Wang, Owen Wang and Isaac Nuhfer. Also surviving are children of her brother Richard, Dirk (Diane) Finley of Clarendon and Marianne (Tom) Simon of St. Simons Island, Georgia, along with many other nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Judy was preceded in death by her son Darren at birth; a brother, Richard Finley; and sisters Peg Yaegle and Jo Ann Finley.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Judith Finley Nuhfer was celebrated Monday, Feb. 26 with Fr. James Gutting, pastor, officiating, with Deacon Joseph Lucia assisting.
