Robert Agar Rosenberg Obituary
Robert Agar Rosenberg, 98, of Cherry Grove, died Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2018 at the Lutheran Home in Kane.
He was born Feb. 5, 1920 in Erie to the late Agar C. and Delia M. Rosenberg.
Mr. Rosenberg graduated from Millcreek High School in 1938 and attended the Erie Business School. He married Margaret Delcene Stewart on Sept. 21, 1940 and they spent the next 70 years together. He served in the Armed Forces during World War II. After the war, he built his own home in the country with fieldstone gathered from a nearby farm. Mr. Rosenberg was active in the local community and was instrumental in establishing Green Township Elementary School in 1954, which replaced the one-room school system there. He served as president of the school board for the elementary school and for Wattsburg Area High School. He also played an active role in establishing Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, served on the church council and sang in the choir. Mr. Rosenberg was a member of the Lions Club and served as a leader in the Boy Scouts. He retired in 1982 as a salesman for Nabisco after 36 years of service.
Mr. Rosenberg was a lifelong outdoorsman and an avid gardener who grew grapes and made his own wine. As he neared retirement, he spent each fall hunting and camping with his son's family in the mountains of Colorado and Wyoming, as well as continuing to hunt in the "big woods" of Pennsylvania at camps located near Russell City and Cherry Grove.
In 1993, Mr. and Mrs. Rosenberg moved to Cherry Grove, where they became members of Cherry Grove Community Church. From the back porch of his new home overlooking the Allegheny National Forest, he often commented "I feel like I've died and gone to heaven."
Mr. Rosenberg is survived by his daughter, Charlynn Schweingruber of Evanston, Illinois; his son Robert and wife Elizabeth of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and their son Andy Rosenberg of Laramie, Wyoming; granddaughter Heidi Schweingruber and sons Ian and Carsten Winslow, all of Columbia, Maryland; granddaughter Wendi Schweingruber Ralaingita and husband Isadore and their daughter Delcene, all of Katmandu, Nepal.
Funeral services for Robert A. Rosenberg will be held Feb. 24 at 1 p.m. at the Cummings Funeral Home Inc. Burial will follow in Cherry Grove Cemetery in Clarendon.
