Charlotte Caffrey Obituary

CAFFREY 1928 - 2017 Charlotte Marie Caffrey, 89, passed away February 12, 2017, within days of the fourth anniversary of Raymond's death, her husband of 62 years. Visitation is set for 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, at McGilley State Line Chapel with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial is to be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, at St. Thomas More Church, 11822 Holmes Road, KCMO. Proud of her Nebraskan roots, Charlotte was born to William and Genevieve Cook in Omaha. A mere 5' 1 and 3/4", she was considered a mighty force with capabilities far out of proportion to her physical stature. She managed a household of eight boys (yes, it was as crazy as that sounds) with a kind and gentle hand, never letting anyone forget who the boss was. Her prayers and force of will are widely credited with causing her once paralyzed son, Patrick, to be able to walk again. Charlotte stayed strong and vital throughout her own decades long struggle against multiple sclerosis. She enjoyed traveling the world with Ray and cherished time with their many friends. Entertaining was one of Charlotte's greatest joys whether it was at her gracious home on Red Bridge or at the Lake of Ozarks. Love for her family was always evident by the care and effort she put into holiday celebrations. The Caffreys were a founding family of St. Thomas More Parish. Charlotte was a member of the Ladies of Charity. All who were close to Charlotte have no doubt she has been reunited with Ray in heaven. Charlotte is survived by her eight sons and their wives, Mark (Valerie), Michael (Mary Ann), Daniel (Cindy), Patrick (Julianna), James (Beth), David (Mary Katherine), Robert, M.D. (Kathy) and Richard (Markay), 20 grandchildren and 14 great- grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Catholic Charities Kansas City-St. Joseph, 850 Main St., Kansas City, MO 64105 or www.catholiccharities- kcs.org. Condolences may be left online at mcgilleystatelinechapel.com Arr.: McGilley State Line Chapel, 12301 State Line Rd, Kansas City, MO 64145 (816) 942-6180.
