KENNETH MILLER Obituary

KENNETH DALE MILLER Kenneth Dale Miller, 94, of Lenexa, KS passed away February 18, 2018. Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., service 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at Johnson County Funeral Chapel, 11200 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lakeview Village Foundation, 9100 Park, Lenexa, KS 66215. Kenneth was born September 4, 1923, in Henryetta, OK, to Douglas Gardner and Lela Leona (Chase) Miller. After serving as a Marine in WWII, he returned home and earned a bachelor's degree from Drury College. He went on to serve in the Army in Korea after college. He moved to Kansas City and met his first wife, Carol Ann Kunze, in 1952. He established himself in a long successful career in the insurance business as an underwriter with National Fidelity and Kansas City Life Insurance. Together he and Carol devoted their time to raising four children. Kenneth was dedicated to his family. He participated in the Indian Guides, coached sports teams, and even put up with a garage full of Girl Scout cookies. He made sure all of his children had the opportunity for a good education. Nearing retirement he discovered a passion and a talent for golf. Never one to sit still, Kenneth was always willing to tackle new challenges including bicycling, fishing, and skiing. After Carol's death in 1993, he found companionship with Sue Reed, whom he married in 1996. He and Sue enjoyed traveling, both across the U.S. and internationally. After Sue died in 2008, he eventually moved to Lakeview Village where he met new friends and developed new skills at a pool table. He enjoyed welcoming eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren into his life. He was a social, outgoing person who will be missed by all. Kenneth was preceded in death by his son Doug Miller, his first wife Carol Miller, his second wife Sue Miller, and his parents Douglas and Lela Miller. Kenneth is survived by three children and a daughter-in-law, Diana Jones (Marty) of Alamosa, CO, Cheryl Glover (Dale) of Evergreen, CO, David Miller (Kathy) of Bennington, NE, Colleen Cochren Miller of Kansas City, MO; eight grandchildren, Steven Glover (Amanda) of Renton, WA, Alan Glover of Frisco, CO, Duncan Miller of Kansas City, MO, Cullan Miller of Kansas City, MO, Dina Smith (Phil) of Vancouver, CA, Andy Miller (Alex) of Omaha, NE, Grace Anderson (Brent) of Omaha, NE, Kevin Miller (Becca) of Omaha, NE; and three great grandchildren, Braydon and Isla Smith, and Ezekiel Miller.
