I´m at my last football practice of the season as an assistant JR high coach. Thinking of Coach Bassore and the huge influence he had, and continues, to have on my life and the lives of so many other men. His legacy continues through his players and all he helped to shape. Gone too soon, but never forgotten.

It has been three years since Coach Bassore left us. I think of him often. I especially remember how he influenced my life nearly everyday. If Deb and the kids see this, I hope they know I am still thinking of them and that Dave has not been forgotten.

Dear Debbie and family.
It has been some time now since Dave left us but we will NEVER forget him. Am interested in ways to honor him, scholarship golf tournament, etc. He touched so very many lives and his spirit should be honored in that light. To the Bassore family: I went to grade school with David at Marionville and was his neighbor. I have fond memories of riding bikes with him, having a lemonade stand and then fussing over the money we made, and of course, throwing a ball around. Betty would let me tag along when she would take David places. Over the years I have heard great things of David and what a good family man he was. My heart goes out to the entire family. You will remain in my prayers.

Some of my fondess memories of football at Sam Houston was hearing Coach Bassore's "wry" comments during practice, like "its, Deadly Dave!" through chewing tobacco during tackling drills, listening to his hilarious stories, how he got so excited when someone made a great play. He was always a great friend and advisor, I had not talked to him in years, but he will always be in my memories and he will be missed. This picture is one of my favorites, he always believed in me.

I have never met you; but my heart skipped a beat when I heard of your husband's tragic death. My husband was killed 8 1/2 months ago while riding his bicycle home from work. He was training for the MS-150 Bike Ride. Since Jim's death, hearing of someone else's loss takes on a new meaning. Although the circumstances are not the same, and no relationship is the alike . . . . I felt drawn to reach out to you. The emotions that come from a tragic and untimely death are like no other. My heart and prayers go out to you, your children and your entire family as you start your journey of grief.

Coach Bassore was an amazing man on, and especially off the field. I'll forever be grateful that he gave me the opportunity to get to play for him at Jewell. I will always be more grateful that I got to know him as a person. The thing I will remember the most is that he understood why I couldn't play for him his last year at Jewell, but he ALWAYS treated with the same kindness and encouragement around campus, and I won't forget when he used to yell at people across campus just so he could smile and wave. He was a man of great character, kindness, and most of all he was truly genuine. My heart goes out to the rest of the Bassore family. Dave will be missed greatly by all who got a chance to know him.

There are no words to express how deeply sorry we are. Although Coach was only at ONH a short time, his laughter, spirit, and zest for life will live on in the hearts and lives of those he so caringly touched. Not only did these young men like Coach Bassore but they respected him. Coach taught them to work hard, set goals for themselves, to believe in themselves. He taught them how to play hard and have fun at it. Although the Eagles may not have had a winning season this past year they won something much more valuable, the opportunity to have known Coach Bassore.

When Coach approched me at a summer camp and asked if my son would like to visit William and Jewell with the possibility of playing football, I thought no way it's too far. Needless to say, my son was won over and thanks to the coach he made a good choice, which I would be forever grateful. My son never been away from home but because of coach he adjusted very well. I know in my heart it was his excitement and caring that my son was able to endure his frist year at college. To the family, Coach , made my days alot easier knowing that he was in my son life, thank you for sharing this wonderful man. My prays will be with you and your family during this time.

Coach Bassore was our older son John's weight training coach at Center High School in the mid 90s and our younger son Steven attended middle school with Aaron and also went to a football camp at CMSU that Coach administered. They both had only great things to say about him and we were all shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. I remember talking to him on several occasions and was always impressed by both his professionalism and his sense of humor. He was a great man who cared deeply about all the young people whose lives he touched.

Coach Bassore not only taught me about the game of football.... He taught me about the game of life.. Taught us to be good men and husbands.. And to do everything we can to the best of our ability... I played under Coach Bassore for 4 years at SHSU. As a walk-on, I faced an uphill battle trying to make the team. Coach Bassore encouraged me to work hard. Dave Bassore was my track and weight training coach at Center High School (Graduate '96). He had an impact on my life which is immeasurable. His coaching ability helped us to place at the state track championships, but his ability to love and lead helped hundreds of young people exceed in life. He was one of many people that had an impact on my life, but Coach Bassore is in the minority, he is in the handful of people that I truly believe shaped me into the man I am today. He was a man of great passion and love. He made me a better athlete, leader, student, and human being. The discipline and work ethic he taught me allowed me to exceed in college athletics, and in life. My thoughts and prayers are with all of his family. I played football and ran track under Coach Bassore at Center High and am saddened by news of his passing. Coach ALWAYS expected nothing but the very best effort from each of us. To give anything less was doing yourself and your teammates a disservice. This is but a single lesson that stays with me to this day. I still hear that familiar booming voice saying "LET'S LIFT!!!" at the beginning of weight training class...
Coach Bassore didn't just inspire and teach great football players-he inspired and taught us to be great men. To the Bassore family-I offer my prayers and condolences.

Coach Bassore was my football coach for 3 years at Center High and he had a great impact in my life. He was an inspiration to all he came in contact with. Coach always pushed me to better myself and helped instill much of the work ethics I rely on still. Most of all he showed me what it meant to be a good man. His love for the game was only outdone by the love for his family. His wife and kids were no stranger to his football team team. My deepest sympathy goes out to Debbie, Dana, and Aaron.
