Barbara J. Carlson Barbara J. Carlson of Overland Park, KS passed away peacefully at Claridge Court Senior Living Community on Thursday, August 2, 2018. Barbara was born in Wichita, Kansas on February 1, 1927 and graduated from Wichita Cathedral High School in 1944 and from Mount St. Scholastica College in Atchison, Kansas in 1948. While attending St. Scholastica, Barbara met the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Carlson. They married in 1949. As Dick's career with Skelly and Getty Oil Company advanced, Barbara and Dick relocated several times during their marriage. They lived in Kansas City, Missouri; Hastings Nebraska; Dallas Texas; Omaha Nebraska and Des Moines, Iowa before returning to the Kansas City area in 1973. Barbara was a loving mother and wife and an avid golfer as well as tennis and bridge player. She and Dick were married for 62 years before Dick's death in 2012 and they met many lifetime friends through their recreational activities. They were active members of Indian Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, Kansas. Barbara and Dick were able to travel overseas extensively with their many golf and tennis friends. Survivors include children Andy, Carolyn, John, Patty and Kim; loving sons and daughter-in-law (Dave Kurtz and Jeff Ingram, Mary Carlson) and 14 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Rose Larcher and brothers Edward, and Joseph Larcher, and infant brother Francis and infant sister Rosemary Larcher. Services will be held at Cure of Ars Catholic Church in Leawood, Kansas on Saturday, August 25 at 10 am. A reception will follow the funeral mass at Indian Hills Country Club. A private entombment will be at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cure of Ars Memorial or Rockhurst High School.
