DR.  DAN KAHLER Obituary
Dr. Dan Kahler, 89, met his maker on Tuesday, December 1st, in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. There will be a memorial service honoring him on his 90th birthday, February 6th, 2016 at the Oak Park High School Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, his family requests contributions be made to the Dr Dan Kahler Teacher Grants Fund in care of the North Kansas City Schools Educational Foundation, 2000 NE 46th Street, Kansas City, MO 64116. He lived a magical life as an All American athlete, educator, professional speaker and published author. He lived in the Northland for 50 years serving as the first principal of Oak Park High School from 1965-1986, as well as an interim principal of Winnetonka HS, North Kansas City HS, and honorary principal for a day at Staley HS. He is a charter member of the Oak Park Hall of Fame, and the North Kansas City Hall of Fame. He also is a recipient of The Kindest Kansas Citian Award. He served his country during WW2 as a Navy Signalman. He played for the Navy team in a post war basketball game in Madison Square Garden. He was an All American athlete in college at Southwestern College, as well as a 4 year letterman in the sports of Football, basketball, baseball and golf. He was offered contracts to play professionally in the American Football League, the National Basketball Association and the Major League Baseball Association. He played for the United States in the first World Tournament in Buenos Aires Argentina in 1950. He chose to further his education after graduating from Southwestern College and received a doctorate in Education from Oklahoma State University. He married the love of his life, Violet Beatty after graduating from Southwestern College. He leaves a legacy of four grandchildren and four great grandchildren, as well as thousands of graduates and families whose lives he touched throughout his life.
