Doris F. Black Doris F. Black, 94, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Shawnee Heartland Assisted Living which had been her home for over 10 years. Doris was born July 22, 1923 in Kansas City, Kansas, daughter of Harry and Hazel Layman. She and her three sisters Marjorie, Geraldine, and Lois all grew up in the Argentine area and graduated from Argentine High School. Doris was married to Murl D. Black who preceded her in death in 2008. Together they welcomed into the world their son, Michael D. Black of Prairie Village, KS. She is survived by two grandchildren, Jason Black, Leawood, KS, and Ashley Meehan, Lee's Summit, Mo, and five great grandchildren. Doris, who was affectionately known as Choo Choo Nana, was dearly loved by all. She was a lover of classical music and was gifted with a beautiful operatic voice. She was widely read and was a student of world history, politics, and current events. Her amazing memory and life experiences were a constant source of entertainment and information to those around her. She loved her family, her well cared for pets, and her Lord Jesus. Doris will always be a model of how one should treat others. Throughout her time she touched many people's hearts and will be missed by all who knew her. A graveside service for family will be held at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at Maple Hill Cemetery where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband of 65 years.
