Elinor (Hennessy) Bax Obituary
Elinor (Hennessy) Bax Elinor (Hennessy) Bax, (76) died Wednesday, August 1 at Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on November 29,1941 in Kansas City, Missouri, the daughter of Nappy (Halloran) and M. Joseph Hennessy. She received her education at Guardian Angels Grade School, Loretto Academy (where she learned many things, including how to dance!) and the College of St. Teresa (Avila). After college, she worked for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph, Office of the Tribunal and later for her former parish, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Kansas City, Missouri, but her most important job was to build a beautiful and loving family with husband Tom and daughters Katie and Janet. Elinor had a deep faith and sense of service. She was a 37-year member of St. Elizabeth's Parish and an active volunteer for the church and school. She also volunteered for St. Teresa's Academy and was a long-term volunteer with the Ladies of Charity, providing help and support for those in need. She was often a quiet behind the scenes worker, but graciously stepped up to lead fundraisers or activities when needed. Elinor and Tom volunteered in countless ways to extend the mission of the church and were formally recognized for their service at the Bishop's Recognition Dinner for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. She was most recently a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and for many years attended the Tuesday 11:00pm adoration with her dear friend, Joan Jordan. She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved daughter, Janet, who died in 1993 following complications post bilateral lung transplant as a result of Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Throughout their lives, both Elinor and Tom worked tirelessly to raise awareness about CF and support research onleading edge treatment. Their work for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation extended to family and friends and they never gave up hope or working for a cure. Elinor met Tom, at the Rockhurst Discussion Club and they married on November 19, 1966 and celebrated 51 years of marriage. They raised two beautiful daughters and enjoyed holidays and special occasions with extended family and friends who gathered often to enjoy love, laughter and funny cat stories. As a mother, she delighted in the small joys of life and challenged her daughters to live each day to its fullest and follow their dreams. She and Tom also enjoyed traveling with special trips to Ireland with family and to Italy on pilgrimage. She is survived by her husband, Tom, her daughter, Katie Richardson and husband Terry and their children, Jud, Max and Sam, all of Southlake, Texas, her sister, Mary Pat Himmelberg and husband, Mick, of Lawrence, Kansas, brothers-in-law and wives and many nieces and nephews. She was truly adored by all who knew her and were blessed by her support and love. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 13 at 11:15am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 14251 Nall Ave. Visitation and rosary will precede the Mass at 9:00am. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Heart of America Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Janet E. Bax Scholarship Fund at St. Teresa's Academy.
