1915 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
GEORGE GUASTELLO George Guastello, 102, of Overland Park, KS, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2017, blessed by the presence of his family and friends. George was born in Kansas City on June 20, 1915, to Mario and Josephine Guastello. He was the eldest of four children. George was a lifelong resident of Kansas City. He graduated from Manual High School and went on to earn a degree in Pharmacy from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1937. Later that year George married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Tidona Guastello and they were happily married for 70 years until her passing in 2007. As a testament to his entrepreneurial spirit George established and partnered in several area pharmacies including the Prospect Pharmacy, Paseo Sundry and Spalitto's Pharmacy. His pride in the practice of pharmacy endured for 67 years until he retired in 2004 at which time he was recognized for his commitment to education as the recipient of the UMKC Legacy Award. When George was not in the pharmacy he could be found pursuing his favorite pastime on the golf course. He was an avid golfer and an active member of Meadowbrook Country Club and spent many a day playing with his friends and family, only giving up the game at age 97. The last 16 years of George's life was spent at Village Shalom where he cultivated many friendships and enjoyed his weekly 'Happy Hour' where he was known to raise a can or two of his favorite Bud Light in celebration. George lived his long life with passion and determination always putting his family first. He believed in the importance of education and was committed to providing his family with the opportunity to pursue their dreams through a quality education. As a devoted father George took great pride in his children and he believed and was often heard quoting the Reverend Thomas Scott , "A man cannot leave a better legacy to the world than a well-educated family." George will be forever cherished and remembered by his four children, Dr. Mario Guastello, (JoCarole), Dr. Joseph Guastello, Mary Guastello Albers (Doug), George Guastello, (Betsy), 11 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren all of whom loved him dearly. He is also survived by his brother Carmelo Guastello, his wife Rose, his brother-in-law Carl Privitera and his wife Josephine. He is preceded in death by his daughter Josephine, brother Joseph, sister Maria, and daughter-in-law Cheryl Guastello. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to his caregivers, Elizabeth, Yogi, Kelsi and Ann who kindly cared for him with great passion. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the George Guastello Scholarship Fund at the UMKC School of Pharmacy, 2464 Charlotte Street HSB 2309 Kansas City, MO 64108. Visitation will be held from 10-11:45 a.m. Thursday, July 13, followed by Mass of the Resurrection at Noon at Holy Rosary Catholic Church 911 E. Missouri Avenue, KCMO 64106. Private burial service to follow. Condolences may be offered at www.passantinobros.com
