Grace Ellen Thresher Davis Obituary
Grace Ellen Thresher Davis Grace Ellen Thresher Davis, 92, died Monday, August 6, 2018, at Trinity Manor, Dodge City, Kansas. She was born October 6, 1925, at Jetmore, Kansas, the daughter of Charles and Josephine (Tredway) Thresher. She graduated from Emporia State Teacher's College with a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1948. On August 8, 1948, she married Verne Donald Davis at Hillsboro, Kansas. She did her student teaching in Jetmore, Kansas. She taught in Seattle, Washington, for a few years and then became a substitute teacher in the Shawnee Mission School District in Johnson County, Kansas. After her children began school, she taught full time, first at Mohawk Elementary School and then at Tomahawk Elementary School. She retired in 1991. On March 1, 2009, she and Verne left their home of 53 years in Overland Park and moved to Dodge City. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dodge City and Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, Kansas. She was a member of Lions Club, Eastern Star, Beta Sigma Phi, and Sigma Sigma Sigma at Emporia State. Survivors include: two daughters, Susan Davis and companion Ralph Powell, Garden City, and Dr. Mary Davis and husband Dr. Dan Jones, Dodge City; two sisters, Carol Nix, Mesa, Arizona, and Beth Reimer and husband Don, Yuma Arizona; two grandchildren, Katie Jones, New York City, and Danielle Jones and fianc‚e, Tim O'Connor, Kansas City, Missouri; one honorary grandson, Adrian Gomez, Overland Park, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Verne, on September 14, 2014 and a brother, Charles "Chuck" Thresher. Memorial service will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, September 2, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, Dodge City, with Rev. Jerre Nolte officiating. There will be no public viewing as cremation has taken place. Friends may sign the register from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Friday, August 31, at Ziegler Funeral Chapel, Dodge City. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. The family suggests memorials to Planned Parenthood, , or First United Methodist Church of Dodge City, in care of Ziegler Funeral Chapel, 1901 N. 14 th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
