Janice Ladene Gorden Obituary
Janice Ladene Gorden Janice Ladene Gorden, 93 years old, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, May 25, 2018 in Lower Lake, California. Janice was born August 5, 1924 in Otoe County, Nebraska. The only child of Harry Oral Gunn and Grace Alva Gunn (Mead). When she was 2 years old the family moved to Bolivar, Missouri, Janice graduated high school in 1941 and began her career as a telephone operator, including long-distance, and during wartime for Bell Telephone Company. She is a lifetime member of the "Telephone Pioneers". Her then future husband Roscoe, graduated from a neighboring school the same year. After Roscoe returned from WWII-Army Air Corps-South Pacific in 1945, they married and moved to Kansas City, Missouri and she continued her career there. In 1963 the family moved to Redwood City, California. Janice and Roscoe retired in 1980, Roscoe from TWA 35 years. In 1981, Roscoe and Janice moved to Poinsettia Gardens in Ventura, CA. In March 1995, they celebrated 50 years of marriage; Roscoe passed away in October of that same year. In 2005, Janice sold her Ventura home and moved to Oroville, and again moved recently to Clearlake, CA to be near her family. Janice's life was always about her family first, and countless dear friends including neighbors. She was loved and admired by so many and will be greatly missed. She had a wonderful sense of humor and quick-wit, and genuine big smile from ear-to-ear. Her grandchildren adored her and loved listening to her life stories; seeing her old photo collections; and appreciated her ever-kind words of encouragement and sound advice. She was lovingly called "MaG" and "JanGma". She enjoyed crafting and was especially good with ceramic arts. She and Roscoe loved to travel, including a world tour in their younger years, and then in later years they were part of an RV Camping club in which they found a great number of new lifelong friends. She is survived by her son Larry Gorden (Barbara); daughter-in-law Carolyn Gorden; granddaughter Deborah Kummer (Kent) of Eudora, KS; grandson Brennan Gorden of St. Petersburg, FL; and many other dearly-loved grandchildren and great-grandchildren of her extended families. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Roscoe and her son Gregory "Leroy". Arrangements are under the direction of Jones & Lewis Clear Lake Memorial Chapel FD 800.
