1936 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Kirk McDaniel, Jr., 77, died peacefully in his sleep on March 4, 2014. He was born July 14, 1936 in Kansas City. He attended elementary school in Kansas City, Wentworth Military Academy and William Jewell College. Growing up he spent many summers with childhood friends at his grandparent's cottage in Door County, WI as well as the McDaniel family cabin. Kirk is survived by his partner of 16 years, Nalleyn Jones; cousins Laura Farris of Overland Park and Ginny (Jerry) Job of Leawood; Lynn (Gary) Leuer, Louise (Lee) Hansen and Charles (Peggy) Schroeder of Green Bay, WI; Beverly (Carl) McFarland of Chicago; and his life long friend, Ray Riepen. He will be missed by "grandchildren" Conrad, Chase and Natalee Jones; Taylor and Charlie Warden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kirk and Elsa (Schroeder) McDaniel, both sets of grandparents and his cousin, Virgil Thomson, a Kansas City native who was a renowned composer, conductor and critic. Throughout his life he worked for the family title company, developed real estate subdivisions and shopping centers on the west coast and was president of Diamond- McDaniel Investigations in Beverly Hills, CA. He was active in Missouri Society of the Sons of American Revolution; Alexander Majors Chapter, S.A.R.; Sons of Confederate Veterans; State Historical Society of Missouri; member of Village Presbyterian Church where he took an active role in Village Mariners and the Village Church Food Pantry. His passion was sailing his own boat off the coast of Marina Del Ray, CA and he was an avid reader. Kirk's great great grandfather, Judge Reuben McDaniel, moved to Miami, MO in 1840 where he purchased several thousand acres and was a farmer, merchant and leader in development of central MO and a founder of William Jewell College. His great grandfather, Giles McDaniel was a KC real estate developer in 1896. His grandfather, attorney Lex McDaniel, started Kansas City Title & Trust Company, was a Trustee of William Jewell College and Kansas City Symphony. His father started McDaniel Title Co. and was an active civic leader in Kansas City until his death in 1957. Kirk will be remembered for his love of learning, sharing of his immeasurable knowledge and his desire to help others succeed in their endeavors. Memorial service at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8 in the Chapel of Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village. Memorial contributions to Village Presbyterian Church.
