MELISSA MORROW Obituary

MELISSA S. MORROW Melissa was born and raised in mid-Missouri and bled Black and Gold for her University of Missouri Tigers. She graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia Magna Cum Laude with honors before completing her law school juris doctorate degree there in 1994. Melissa was a distinguished member of her law school class, competing in the National Moot Court in 1994. After graduating, Melissa practiced as a civil litigation attorney in Kansas City, Missouri, and became a member of the Missouri and Kansas Bar Associations. Melissa had a distinguished career as a Special Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) beginning in 1995. She was assigned to the Washington D.C. Field Office where she investigated cyber and economic crimes, served as an undercover agent, and was a member of the Evidence Response Team before becoming a Supervisory Special Agent (SSA) in 2005. In 2007, SSA Morrow led the Child Exploitation Squad at the Washington Field Office whose responsibilities included investigating crimes involving the online sexual exploitation of children, child abductions, international parental kidnappings, and child prostitution. Melissa's passion was protecting children, which led to her forming the Washington Metro Child Exploitation Task Force serving the Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. areas. In July 2010, Melissa received a transfer to the FBI Kansas City Division, where she investigated financial and intellectual property crimes. Her work in Kansas City led to numerous recognitions and awards, including the FBI Agents Association Award of Excellence for Distinguished and Exemplary Service. As a member of the FBI Evidence Response Team, Melissa served at the Pentagon in the months following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. After being diagnosed with a highly aggressive form of glioblastoma brain cancer in July 2016, Melissa passed away on March 22, 2018. Her illness, attributed to her service at the Pentagon, is considered a Line of Duty Death. As such, the FBI will be nominating her for the National Law Enforcement Memorial in Washington D.C., the state of Missouri Law Enforcement Memorial, the FBI Wall of Honor, and the FBI Memorial Star. Melissa had an infectious laugh that was affectionately referred to as her "cackle" by family and friends. Fiercely loyal and strong, Melissa once qualified her track team for State Finals by performing the 4x800 in an air cast. She was grateful for everyone that surrounded her during her illness, especially to her Kansas City FBI Family who formed #TeamMelissa which extended throughout her law enforcement family in the United States and overseas, as well as her healthcare team at Saint Luke's Hospital and Hospice. Melissa never wavered in her determination to fight or her strong faith. Following her diagnosis, she said, "Every single day, hour, minute, and second being alive is a precious gift and one that I will never, ever take for granted again. Remarkably, I have never felt more at peace than I do now. I have placed my faith and trust in God, knowing that everything will work out the way it is supposed to be." Melissa is survived by her mother Mary Morrow, father Larry Morrow, sister Angie Luetkemeyer, nephew Timothy Luetkemeyer, niece Taylor Luetkemeyer, and her adopted little sister, Paige Pinson.

We never met Melissa other than through the updates provided by the Society of Former Special Agents. We wanted to help toward Melissas recovery in any way we could, including daily prayers of intercession that her health would be restored. God the Father had other plans for Melissa, but this we know her life will be marked by strong and enduring examples of faith, commitment, strength, and dignity in the face of unrelenting adversity. We mourn her passing and extend our condolences to the Morrow family.

I regret not knowing Melissa until this posting. So sad. I was in law enforcement for several years and you never get used to losing a brother or sister officer. And I think that sadness for me is a good thing because it reminds me to care. Ironically I am working on my first screenwriting script that is about the very crimes Agent Morrow worked so hard to stop. I'd like to dedicate it to her memory and if OK with the family, and the bureau, naming the FBI Agent after her. Prayers to her family, her friends and those lucky to work with her.

I met Melissa many years ago in Washington, DC. What a beautiful person and a beautiful spirit. She gave me three CD of music that she had compiled--I've been listening to them since hearing of her passing. Her kindness will be missed in our troubled world. Sending my deepest condolences to her loving family.

I met Melissa through mutual friends in DC. She was a smart, fun, caring person devoted to her family, friends and career at the FBI. I will remember her laugh, especially when we would torment others by sharing the secret Theta grip. A beautiful person, inside and out. She will be remembered and missed by many. Rest In Peace, Melissa.

I met and knew Melissa when she arrived at WFO. There was no doubt from the first time you met her that she would be a greatagent who had the knowledge, skills, and tact to be the best. she was right, intelligent, and above all else ready willing and able to learn to be the best agent possible.
You could sense her kindness, compassion, and integrity. She wanted to be the best, and throughout her career she was proud of the badge she bore.
Melissa, wyou will be dearly and sincerely missed. Regards. Butch Luker, WFO, Retired 2002

I meet Melissa due to her illness. I honestly wish I had know her for any other reason. Once a week she would come in with a smile on her face and always an upbeat attitude. I would look forward to her coming in each week even for the 10 to 15 minutes I got to spend with her. We would talk about everything from watching Shark Tank to law enforcement. It was always great to see her. In my brain I knew someday this would happen. As a nurse and having seen a sister-in-law pass the same way. In my heart I hoped it wouldn't. I am sorry for everyone who was close to her. You all know how cool she really was as a person. Please know that for those of us who knew her for one fleeting moment we knew how cool she was too. At my desk on the computer monitor is a memento she gave me. I will cherish it more now than I ever did before. Looking at it daily will have a new meaning for me. Melissa ....... thank you is all I can say. With all my sympathy, Kristin
