1924 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Schwab Samuel Major Jr. Schwab Samuel Major, Jr, 94, passed away peacefully at home on Dec 2, 2018, with his wife and children present. Born on July 2, 1924 in Windsor, MO, to Schwab, Sr. and Meda Major, Schwab Jr. spent his formative years in Wichita, KS, graduating from High School in 1942. Schwab enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly thereafter, serving as an infantry reconnaissance scout with the 11th Armored Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. After the war, he married Wilma Jean Briscoe, and earned his Doctorate in physics at K-State, while employed as Professor of Physics at UMKC. He was also active in local politics, especially in the campaign for a Jackson County charter, and later served as manager in a few local campaigns. After retiring from UMKC, Schwab worked at AlliedSignal Aerospace as head of Technical Staff Development. Schwab, a lifelong learner and educator, is survived by his wife of 67 years, Wilma; his sister, Mary Virginia; his three children Schwab, III, Karen, and Karl (Sari); and two grandchildren, McKayla and Mathew. Service at All Souls UU Church, 4501 Walnut, KC MO, Jan 19 at 2:00pm. The family suggests donations to the Nature Conservancy, or Linda Hall Library in KC.
