STEPHEN A. OLIVER Sr. Obituary
Stephen A. Oliver, Sr., 67, of Lee's Summit, Mo., passed away Thursday, August 28, 2014, at his residence. Stephen and his wife, Katherine Oliver, moved to Lee's Summit in 1998. He was born Sept. 18, 1946, in Richmond, Ind., to Othur V. and Marlene Oliver. Stephen graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration from Xavier University, in Cincinnati, Ohio. After college, Stephen entered into the automobile industry where he worked, owned, and operated multiple dealership operations. Stephen owned many throughout the years: Steve Oliver Volkswagen, Bradenton, Fla.; and was also the youngest Volkswagen dealer in the world at age 28; Steve Oliver Toyota, Bradenton; Steve Oliver, Inc.- Buick, Pontiac, Cadillac, GMC, Laurinburg, NC; Steve Oliver, Inc.- Pontiac, Cadillac, GMC, Arcadia, Fla.; River City Chrysler, Plymouth, Jacksonville, Fla.; John Wallace Dodge/ Steve Oliver Dodge, Overland Park, Kan.; Sunflower Dodge, Olathe, Kan.; Sunflower Mazda, Olathe; Sunflower Lincoln Mercury, Olathe; Sunflower Suzuki, Olathe; Steve Oliver Auto Mart, Lee's Summit; Steve Oliver Mazda, Kansas City, Mo. After 40 years of service in the automobile industry, he retired in 2009. After retirement, he has enjoyed the leisure of guiding clients on his private hunting reserve located in Adrian, Mo. Here, he was able to reciprocate now becoming the hunting guide versus being the hunter. Over the years, he has enjoyed spending time with his family. He has also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, farming, and vacationing all over the world. However, his most sincere soft spot was to visit Africa. Stephen was an active member of The Wentworth Military Academy Board of Trustees. He served on various local bank boards. He was also an avid supporter of the Don Bosco Foundation, National Dealer Council for Chrysler Financial, as well as serving on Mazda's National Dealer Council, Safari Club International Member, lifetime member of the NRA, Deacon of Island Baptist Church of Ana Maria Island, Fla., member of Kairos Prison Ministries, and finally Stephen was an active board member and partner with Marketplace Ministries International. Stephen is survived by his wife of 42 years, Katherine A. Oliver, two sons, Stephen (Lashaun) Oliver, Jr., and Benjamin (Jessica) Oliver, all of Lee's Summit; grandchildren, William Oliver, Myles and Vivyan Oliver, and Kali and Ashlynn Boydston; two brothers, Phillip (Gayle) Oliver, LaGrande, Ga., and Christopher (Becky) Oliver, Palmetto, Fla., and by many nieces, nephews and many, many colleagues and friends. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Abundant Life Church, 414 SW Persels, Lee's Summit, with a memorial service held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, also at Abundant Life Church. Inurnment will follow at a later date. Memorials may be made in his name to the .
