ROSEMARY BALKE SHUMATE Rosemary Balke Shumate, age 83, resident of Clinton, Missouri, and prior resident of the Kansas City area went home to be with the Lord peacefully Wednesday evening, November 29, 2017. She was surrounded by her daughters, Barbara, Brenda and Sandra and other loved ones as she passed. "Rosie" was born December 14, 1933 to Herman and Rose Balke. Rosie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Herman Junior and her sister, Nadine. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon "Red" Shumate, and her ex-husbands, Luther Shaffner, and Robert White. Rosie is survived by her sister, Betty Kirby. She is also survived by her daughters, Barbara, Brenda and Sandra and their spouses, Jerry, Clark, and Joe. She is survived by her special best friend, George Ulmer and their dog Daisy Mae. Rosie had 7 grandchildren, Tracy, Troy, Rob, Ryan, Joey, Patrick and Kelly, 9 great grandchildren, Ashlee, Paul, Daniel, Alek, Jacob, Reagan, Laney, Henley and Bristol, and 2 great-great granddaughters, Isabella and Saige. In addition, she is survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Rosie will continue to be in the hearts and minds of those who knew her. She had an incredible wit and was smart, sassy and savvy. She loved her family, friends, music, bowling, and traveling. Rosie also loved cardinals, or as she called them "red birds". Her home was filled with many figurines and pictures of them. There is a saying, "When Cardinals Appear, Angels are Near". So, now when each of those who knew her sees a cardinal or a red bird, they can know she is at peace and her spirit is with the Lord. A Visitation will take place from 10-11am on Monday, December 4th followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00am at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO.
