Kathryn Philo Obituary

Kathryn Mary Philo

1946 - 2018

Kathryn Mary Philo, beloved wife, mother, and friend, died Dec. 31, 2018 at her home of residence for the past 24 years in Medford, Ore. Kathy succumbed to a debilitating massive stroke that occurred on Sept. 10, 2018. Kathy was born Sept. 23, 1946 in Kenosha, Wis. to John and Reeva Goodwin. She was known for her vivacious and exuberant personality reflected in her love for people, passion for music, and stage musical productions throughout her high school years and education at Carthage College.

She was married to US Marine pilot David Leet Aug. 2, 1968, until his declaration of PFOD after three years of MIA status - lost while on mission over Viet Nam. Kathy married Steve Philo on Dec. 27, 1975 and they served in pastoral ministry together over 43 years of marriage. Kathy served alongside her husband at Penngrove Community Church, Eagle Life Valley Church, and in the Healing Rooms Ministries of Medford, Oregon. She birthed the Love Company Ministry in 2006 and dedicated her years to passionately "setting the captives free" by encouraging and inspiring the broken and hurting in nursing homes, cancer wards, and to the homeless in streets. She touched lives wherever she went with her genuine love and her "holy Squeezie-Beezie" hugs and her uplifting "love songs." While fighting carcinoid tumors she began a heartstone ministry, touching lives with a gift of a red heart for each one to carry as a reminder of God's love for them.

Kathy is survived by her husband Steve, her sons Jason, Nathan, and Ian, daughters-in law Kathy Reed Philo and Theresa Philo, sister Sandy Jefferies, brother Craig Goodwin, and grandsons Seven, Jarran, Deacon, and Tinnlee.

All friends and family are invited to honor our loved "Squeezie-Beezie" at the following scheduled opportunities: A viewing will be held on Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Conger-Morris Funeral Home; 767 Riverside Ave. in Medford, OR. A burial service will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at Memory Gardens Memorial Park located at 1395 Arnold Lane in Medford, OR. A celebration Memorial Service is scheduled for Feb. 2, 2019, at 11 a.m. at New Song Church located at 4041 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the following charities dear to Kathy's heart: Wounded Warriors, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and Operation Smile.

I served with Davis Leet as a Marine Naval Aviator in Japan and Vietnam and was in Danang when David went missing. I went to Japan from Danang to speak with Kathy and a very young Jason. I am so sorry to hear of her passing. Even though it has been year since I saw Kathy she and Jason have been in my heart and memories since David went MIA. He was a wonderful friend and terrific pilot. I remember Kathy having a great relationship with God and her spirit was infectious. My heart goes out to the family for your loss.
