NOFFSINGER CREECH Anne-Russell Lillis, retired nurse, author, award-winning college professor, and mentor to two generations of hospital nurses, died June 7, 2018, at the age of 86. Born on Feb. 4, 1932, in Frankfort, KY, to Charles Russell and Hettie Ward Lillis. An excellent student, she would go on to earn six college degrees from two universities in Kentucky and Tennessee. She was listed in the Who's Who of several regional and national organizations and was inducted into Phi Delta Kappa and Omicron Delta Kappa. She also was honored with an LCC Scholarship in her name. For many years she served as chair of the LCC Development Council. An avid lover of the arts, she was active in several community organizations, including Friends of Music, Child Development Center Board, and the Rotary Club. Recognitions included: Nursing Class Teacher Award from LTI ('77), Great Teacher Award from UK National Alumni Assn ('83), and Meritorious Award from KY League of Nurshing ('85). While she was a professor and the nursing director at LTI, she co-authored a book, "Counseling: An Introduction for the Health and Human Services". The textbook on theory and process was popular with non-counseling specialists in health care services. She earned a nursing diploma from Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing ('52); a B.A. in English with a minor in biological studies from UK ('66); a bachelor's in nursing from the UT ('84); a master's in counseling psychology from UK ('68); a master's in nursing and mental health administration from UT ('86); and a doctorate in educational and counseling psychology from UK ('79). She was predeceased by her parents, Charles Russell and Hettie Ward Lillis; sister, Lila Ward; brother, John Lillis; and her husbands, both renowned academics, Dr. James Philip Noffsinger and Dr. Glenwood Lewis Creech. Her survivors include two daughters, Ward Noel Pell and Gretchen Noffsinger Zeigler, both of Lexington; son, Dr. Hans (Pam) Noffsinger, MD, Louisville; two grandsons, Carrick Benton Pell and Ward Russell Zeigler; two inherited grandchildren, Charles Byron (Betsy) Pell, Jr. and Sloan Pell (Jimmy) Armstrong; three great-granddaughters, Anne Pell (Connor) Herfurth, Jordan Pell Green, and Reese Farrell; great-grandson, Buddy Pell; niece, Lesta Ward Dunn; and nephew, Dr. John Russell (Gail) Lillis. "Doc Anne," also affectionately known as "Mom-o," was a surrogate grandmother to Robyn Crouch, Nina and Austin Ryan, and Emily, Elizabeth, and Josh Robbins. She is also survived by her extended familiesthe Crouches, the Ryans, and the Robbinsesand her friends the Tillies who knew her to be a formidable woman with panache. Her nephew, Dr. Lillis, will officiate at a celebration of her life at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 16, at Milward-Southland. Visitation will begin at noon.
