Mary McMurtry

MCMURTRY Mary K. Smith, 99, widow of Gaven Hunt McMurtry, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Lexington Country Place. Born in Union County, KY, and formerly of Henderson, KY, she was a daughter of the late George David and Annie Grimes Smith. Mary was a member of the First Baptist Church, Henderson, KY and was active in both the Womens Club and the Garden Club. She was a devoted and supportive wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by one daughter, Ruth McMurtry of Polly's Bend, KY; niece, Judy Hale of Owensboro, KY; nephews, David and Brad Hicks, granddaughter; Kate Martin of CA; grandson, Will McMurtry Martin of Louisville, KY, and nephew, Mike Smith. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth Kay McMurtry Martin, two nephews, Ronnie and Jerry Smith; two sisters and two brothers. A celebration of her life will be held April 18, 2016 at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Nicholasville, KY with times to be announced. No current visitation is being planned. The family would like to extend special thanks and recognition to her caretakers, Sue Ratliff and Erin Meyer.
