WELLS Michael Allin, 67, died of a heart issue while racing at Mid Ohio Race Track in Lexington, Ohio on July 7, 2018. Born July 21, 1950 in Winchester, Kentucky Mike's family moved to Isle of Palms, South Carolina then Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. After high school he joined the United States Coast Guard and served 4 years. Mike then went to American Motorcycle Institution (AMI) in Daytona, Florida. Soon after graduating he went to work at Charlie Brown's Yamaha of Lexington in 1977. While working at Charlie Brown's, he also attended UK and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree. In 2003 he began roadracing in the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) series. After the dealership was sold and moved to Hamburg, he started Mike Wells Racing in the old Eastland Drive building. There he built many engines and bikes for people racing in the AHRMA and WERA series. He earned more than 60 trophies and was National Champion in the Lightweight Production (AHRMA) on his 1966 Honda 305 Superhawk in 2005. He was a life member of the American Motorcyclist Association. Mike is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Cody and Alisha Wells, granddaughter Megan, brother and sister-in-law Jim and Mary Wells, a cousin Toni Wells Brown, uncle George Wells, his fiance Kathy Braun, and a host of nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind special friends Steve Pieratt, Darrell Woolums, and Jodie Wells. A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on August 18, 2018 at the Mike Wells Racing Shop 1279 Eastland Drive Lexington, KY.
