BROOME Rose Marie (Johnson), passed away on December 2, 2017 at Methodist Southlake Hospital in Merrillville, Indiana. She was born in Lexington on February 13, 1945 to the late Roosevelt and Myrtle Johnson. Rose united with Christ at an early age at the East Second Street Christian Church in Lexington. Rose was a proud 1963 graduate of old Dunbar High School and a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was also a proud 1967 graduate of Kentucky State University. Rose pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. in the fall of 1964. Rose started her teaching career in the Gary, Indiana Public Schools where she was employed until her retirement in 2007. Rose was a member of St. Timothy Community Church in Gary. She was united in marriage to Ronald E. Broome, of Chicago on June 29, 1968 and to this union was born two children, Rolonda E. Broome of Indianapolis, IN and Rodney E. Broome (Courtney) of Louisville, KY. Rose was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald E. Johnson, of Lexington. Rose leaves to mourn her passing: three Brothers Roosevelt (Thelisa) Johnson, Jr., Roderick V. (Karen) Johnson, Sr. both of Lexington, and Randall Johnson of Chicago; grandson E. Micah Brookes-Broome of Richmond, Kentucky; along with many friends and extended family. Funeral Services were held at St. Timothy in Gary on December 9th. Visitation in Lexington will be held on Wednesday, December 13 from 11 am to 12:30 pm at Smith & Smith Funeral Home 340 E. 3rd Street, Lexington, KY; internment to follow at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 4915 Harrodsburg Road, Nicholasville, KY.

My dearest sympathy to the family of Mrs Broome. She was truly a beautiful person who will never be forgotten. She left a blueprint on a student of hers at West Side Senior High, and thanks to Mrs Broome for the many request from my friends who ask for my Lasagne. For it was Mrs Broome's recipe. Mrs Broomes students would have West Side halls lit up!!! Now heaven is a little more brighter.

I am so sorry to hear of such a true diamond that has been taken. A ROSE that has been chosen. I am deeply sadden to hear of her homegoing. She was truly a joy to work with and sit around and laugh about everything. I will truly miss you Rose Broome, I will never forget you and how much your family meant to you. I love you and will miss you dearly. Thank you for all of the knowledgeable things you shared with me. Thank you for loving my child as your own (Shernette Sanders).

Rose was a Sweet and Honorable neighbor. I (a l r e a d y) miss our shopping and going to breakfast days, she is truly missed !!!!!
