Vella Scott Obituary
SCOTT Vella Karrick Wise, age 92, died September 12, 2018. She was the beloved wife of the late Harry B. Scott, Jr. and daughter of the late Vella Karrick Wise and Harry L. Wise. She was born September 7, 1926 in Lexington. A graduate of University High School, Mrs. Scott attended the University of Kentucky where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. For many years, she was a member of the Kappa Alumnae holding many offices, including president. In addition, she enjoyed volunteering through the Lexington Junior League for over 68 years, including as a board member, and board member of the Junior League Horse Show. She also served on the Baby Health Board. Mrs. Scott was a member of Christ Church Cathedral. An avid amateur genealogist, she was a member of the Huguenot Society, Colonial Dames, Capt. John McKinley Chapter of the DAR, and the Magna Charta Dames. Mr. and Mrs. Scott were charter members of Idle Hour Country Club and also belonged to the Keeneland Club, the Thoroughbred Club, and the Lexington Club. Mrs. Scott was preceded in death not only by her husband of 68 years, but also by her son the Right Reverend Harry B. Scott, III. She is survived by her daughter, Karrick "Cissy" Scott Collins (Dick); seven grandchildren: Anne Karrick Deetsch (Jeff), Julia S. Drummond (Michael), Emmy G. Marquess (Don), Elizabeth G. Dorsett (Clay), Vella Catharine Cagle (Charles), William D. Jarman III (Cindy), and Frederic A. Jarman (Brenda), and 17 great grandchildren. Visitation will be on Friday, September 14th, from 4 6, at Milward's Broadway. Services will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Saturday, September 15th at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow. Pallbearers will be Jeffrey Deetsch, Michael Drummond, Donald Marquess, Claiborne Dorsett, Charles Cagle, WIlliam Jarman, and Frederic Jarman. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. James G. Gay, Jack Cunningham, Morris B. Floyd, Daniel W. Scott II, W. Thornton Scott, and Dr. Fernando deCastro. The family would like to express its deep gratitude to Mrs. Scott's caregivers: Dinah Griffin, Denise Moss, Paula Rodgers, and Jackie Slone. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to the Lexington or Woodford County Humane Society or the Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP), 110 Roanoke Street, Christiansburg, Virginia 24073, founded by her late son, Bishop Scott, to serve those in immediate need of food, clothing, and shelter. www.milwardfuneral.com
