Walter W. Turner Obituary
of Knoxville, Tennessee (formerly of Lexington, Kentucky) passed away Monday, February 4, 2019 after a short illness. He was born on April 15, 1945 in Cincinnati, Ohio and was the youngest son of Frank and Martha Turner who predeceased him. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law. He engaged in a trial practice in Eastern Kentucky for seventeen years, focusing upon litigation attendant with coal mining, and oil and gas industries. He served the Commonwealth of Kentucky's, Worker's Compensation Program for many years; namely as an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) (1989-1992), Board Member (1992-1994), and as Commissioner (1994-2001). Following years of public service, he returned to trial practice, which continued until his retirement in 2012. Walt was an avid golfer and sportsman. He loved spending time with his family and sharing his love for the outdoors with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judy B. Turner of Knoxville; four children Bill Turner of Clearwater, Florida, Clay Turner (Katie) and Skip Turner all of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Laura Turner (Stephen) of Brentwood, Tennessee; eight; three siblings Hovey Turner of Winnetka, California, David Turner of Polk City, Florida and Charmayne Marston of Babson Park, Florida. A celebration of life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 9th at Cokesbury United Methodist Church (9919 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, TN 39722). The family will receive friends prior to the celebration at 1 p.m. The family appreciates and requests that all donations be made to the church in lieu of flowers.
