Richard Lamb Obituary
LAMB Richard C, 84, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018. He was born in Lexington on September 8, 1933. He was predeceased by his parents, J.C. and Frances Lamb, also of Lexington, his wife of 53 years, Jane Oldham Lamb, and his brother, William L. Lamb, also of Lexington. Dick is survived by his four children, Cheryl Bickley (Lexington), Richard Jr. (wife Lisa, children Mark and Becca), David (Shannon; children Nathan and Noah) and Wayne (Robin; children Jamie and Ethan), nephew and niece Jeff Lamb and Cyndi Lamb Fisher, and a beloved cousin Lynn Fisher Molloy. Dick did his undergraduate work at MIT and graduated in 1955. After serving in the military for two years, he enrolled at UK and earned his Ph.D. in Physics. After several years doing research at Argonne National Lab in Lisle Illinois, he became part of the faculty at Iowa State where he spent most of his academic career as Professor of Physics, publishing nearly 200 refereed journal articles and conference proceedings in his field of cosmic ray and gamma ray astrophysics. Dick was a fellow of the American Physical Society, a member of both the American Astronomical Society and the International Astronomical Union, and he won awards for excellence in both research and teaching during his academic career. Dick held many church leadership positions, but his most beloved roles were as a tenor member of the choir and, together with his wife Jane, as a Bible study discussion leader for the many groups that met in their home over the years. The memorial service will take place on Saturday, March 10, at 1PM, with a visitation from 11am until service time, at Calvary Baptist Church, 150 E. High St., Lexington, KY 40507. Memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church or Bluegrass Care Navigators, 2312 Alexandria Drive, Lexington, KY 40504. View and sign the guestbook at: www.milwardfuneral.com
